When complaining about someone insulting your stuff, knowing if it was done in a joking manner is pretty relevant. There's a huge difference between "What a piece of crap! Ha ha, <wink>" and "What a piece of crap!". |

tell him that fold down rear seats are an option on BMW sedans and ask him if his honda has an option for BMW motor and handling.

I have an Accord. I'd take an E90 any day of the week. Sounds like your boss is not a driving/car enthusiast, so the benefits of RWD, better engine and handling would be lost on him.

My Boss did the same thing until I told him that if he did not knock it off immediately I would stop asking the customers "Do you want fries with that?".
That shut the SOB up once and for all. CA

Tell your boss that you're adopting two kids. Then let him know that you're "upgrading" to a Honda Accord with all the options.

Agreed.... but...
Get a used Honda Accord at auction for less than $100, make sure the accord does not have folding seats. Steal his keys when he is not looking than replace the car with the salvage car, leave it unlocked, and park his car out of sight. Then put the keys back as quick as you can. Comment that you dont think his car has fold down seats, but that you really like Hondas, that your first car was a Honda, etc. He will argue about the seats at which time you will bet him $5 he is wrong, then he will come down and flip his lid at which point Aston Kucher comes out and punches him in the face.

+1 Your boss is jealous. That is his problem, not yours. Kill him with kindness. It won't hurt you, but make life easier for you. It's just sad for him.

It's important to get along with your boss. Unfortunately, your boss is your boss. If he doesn't like your car, you'll pay for it when it comes time for your review. Change jobs.
I just started a new job. The "boss" drove a Maserati to work today. How immature would it be if I mentioned his car doesn't stall the way mine does, or he doesn't have a seat belt arm that can't be fixed in 3 tries? Jealousy gets you nowhere. I also saw a Panamera Turbo S parked in his spot when I was interviewing. More important than these toys are the fact that you (OP and anybody else) are happy at your work. If you're not, hey, it's your life. Change jobs and get that 20% plus sign-on bonus today, that would take you maybe 8 1/2 years to get at 3% annually... |

The old swap out his Honda and then have Aston Kucher punch him in the face trick. Come on! That gag is so overplayed. CA

My boss is the same way; it eats you up inside, but there's no making it better, you just gotta take it and vent other ways, eventually you'll leave that job and keep buying BMWs while your boss lives in Honda land. No offense to Hondas, I'm a die hard Honda fan; but let's be honest, you're probably passing him, and it makes him/her jealous and insecure. Face the facts that you can only change them so much; and making your life easier sometimes means placating their insecurity; however you wanna get it done, just do it. That's called "getting ahead", people who can't play nice stagnate and don't move forward. People who can use their past bosses as resources (if possible), and at worst references on the next job move forward.

Here's the truth: I have two young kids. My BMW has fold down seats, and I wouldn't have bought the car without them. Needless to say, now that my car is one year old, I'm surprised to realize that I have never folded down the rear seats. I've decided that it isn't worth the trouble of taking their seats out to fold down the back seat. Frankly, when I need carrying capacity, that's when I thank my lucky stars that we're a multi-car family. When I go to Lowes, I do it in the man van.
BMW: The ultimate driving machine. Honda: A perfectly sensible and reasonable alternative that still gets you from point A to point B. |

not to stir the pot, but im going to go out on a limb and say that if you went out of your way to make a thread about this, it probably does bother you. with that said, it does sound like this guy is joking around. which shouldn't get to you. AND, if he is serious, you'll be happy to know this guy doesn't know shit about cars. Think about it, the only thing he can find to nag you on is your seat not folding down. In the year that I'v had my E92 the only time my back seat was down was to put my snowboard in my trunk. When he starts criticizing BMW as a whole by saying stuff like.....
A. "The E38's subframe was a piece of shit." B. "5-series GT? Looks like a waste of sheet metal." C. "Doesn't the N54 have some kind of fuel pump issue?" D. "I think Chris Bangle drank when he work with clay models." E. "When is BMW going to make something to keep up with an R8." .... then you can start getting annoyed. And if he really thinks that your some kind of uppity guy who like to show off his BMW and thinks that's the reason you got it (and if you trust him, of course), find a twisty road and throw him the keys.

I'm glad my boss in not like this. He bought a brand new Toyota Camry cash so props to him. When he saw my BMW he just said "nice car". He also told me his wife would never date a guy with a BMW and those that do are jerks....haha! She likes me though. Like someone said on here just brush it off and agree with him. After all he is giving you the money to pay for it.
