Let's play "pick that downpipe!"

Hey guys,

Just bought an 09 335i M-sport (which I am loving btw) and had it on the lift yesterday and saw this:

Dealer I bought it from said nothing about it, not that its a bad thing, the car only has 8000 miles on it but i was wondering if with those picture can anyone give me an idea of the brand??

Thanks!

I called them and they stated "we had no recollection of there being no cats on the vehicle" I then asked since they must inspect the car before selling it to the public why they didn't see it then, they said "since it was such a nice car we didn't look it over that detailed"... I got a hold of the previous owner through records and he is shipping me the factory cats but cannot remember what brand he put on when he did, hence why I am asking you guys.

They sound amazing, and from looking at them yesterday, very well constructed. Main reason I am asking is I will probably take them off and install the factory cats until warranty runs out.

I wouldnt, I would make the dealer understand they sold you a modified car, now you want the freedom to fully modify it and still use their services!

You might want to check your ECU for a tune. If they have DP's installed it would throw a code without one... Just a shot!

They are not AR Design (badge is possitioned differently) or Macht Schnell (no badge) and they have invisible taper (no visible taper at the exhaust flange). But the welds are good quality.

Conclusion (from the badge positioning and taper): they are Active Autowerke.

They look like AR's because of the patch that's welded on

Nope, the AR design have the patch near the O2 sensors. These have it on the opposite side.

They are Active Autowerke.

OP- DON'T UNINSTALL THE DOWNPIPES

go back to the dealer, make them type up [on their letterhead] that they sold you a car with catless downpipes. make them honor your warranty for the 50k miles [or longer if it's CPO]

you, sir, have a get out of jail free card. i'd use the fuck out of it!!!!!

Do NOT install factory cats
Car will sound like crap compared to now and you you tune it(trust me you will) you will have less power.
Call the dealership and tell them that you want to keep them on since you bought the car like that. If they say no tell them youll report them for selling a non emissions legal car, and a modified car(warranty).
Either that or when you go in say the owner sent you the cata but you never had time to put em in.

If anything I would have the Dealer put them back on! Maybe consult a lawyer for good measure. BMW is always taking advantage of us!
