FYI: 335is exhaust is not direct replacement for 335i exhaust

Bought a 335is exhaust (axle back) thinking it would match right up to the 335i exhaust this is not the case. Dont know if this has already been discussed but you will need the mid pipes also. Even after cutting the 335is exhaust the pipes were to close together to match up to the 335i midpipes I will be having it sent to an exhaust shop to be fabricated.

I don't understand.. What doesn't match up? If your only installing mufflers they are the exact same size and shape.. No?

the 335is axle back doesn't match up to the 335i mid pipes the bends are different and they connect at different points

And you read my post, I said IS exhaust "as a whole" which means starting from downpipes. I was one of the first people to install it on my car back in 11.

My exhaust shop installed it for $80... Cut off 335i axle back... Line up 335is muffler.. add a very small amount of piping so muffler lines up with 335i midpipes.. weld.. done

I was a little surprised too when I saw the pipes didn't match up... I was like damn it! Well worth it though. Sounds 10x better than the stock 335i muffler. Gurgles and pops all day

Maybe this is only a problem if you buy used mufflers. I just had my new "is" mufflers welded in today on my E90. I had him shorten the tips so they didn't stick out way past the bumper (that was easier said than done), but other than that, I believe they were a direct fit. If I had an E92, I think it would have been very simple.

I'll take a couple pics.

I think the big difference here is that you have a e90 it may be direct replacement on the e90

That could be, but there is only 1 part number for the E92 N54 midpipe. An early E92 335i and a late E92 LCI 335is both share part number: 18 30 7 565 541. That's why it seems a little strange.

Did you try to install them as one piece (ie. both mufflers still welded together as they came of the donor car) ? I'm thinking it's more an issue with trying to line up a used set of pre-welded mufflers vs. an "is" specific issue. If not, I don't have an answer as to why it would be like that.

I really dont think this matter as they are held on with clamps so there should have been no cutting of the 335is exhaust
