N55 HPFP problems
So ive been experiencing long cranks, rough idle at cold temps and half engine light come on and off. Got it scanned for codes and a HPFP code came up and the symptoms definitely make sense that this would be the problem. I may have been a little Naive in thinking the N55 was immune to this. My questions are:
-Is this a common problem for n55 335s? -What kind of cost can I expect to change the HPFP? -Any chance BMW will cover this? 2011 w/90,000 km (56,000 miles) in Canada -I have a 3rd party warranty but for powertrain only, would HPFP be covered? basically, anybody who has experience with this, your insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

HPFP is on extended warranty and BMW should cover it. I am not sure what the miles are, but you seem to be covered. Also I haven't heard very many stories of Fuel pumps going bad on N55. Water pump on the other hand....

I have a 2011 (no HPFP issues) but I too could not verify that this extended warranty applies to the 2011. So I assume the 2011's have the updated part.

If i am not mistaken, it is the same pump as the n54 and not an updated part. I believe they tried to correct the issue with a software change.

My HPFP began dying at around 62k miles. It was replaced under CPO warranty a few months ago. I have a 2011 335i xdrive. N55 motor. Had increasingly long extended starts. Easy to replicate if the car sat overnight, which is exactly what I had the tech do.

What type of CPO warranty did you have? Did you get the work done at a BMW dealership?

The one that came with the car. BMW backed warranty. It was a BMW certified used car. Dealer did the work.

You should have done your research. BMW of south atlanta has it online for $444 plus fees and shipping of 35$ after core charge. I got my local bmw to match as close as they can to $450 after core.

I'm having the same issue, identical mileage too. What month and year was your 335i built?

So my dealer's part's manager overrided the worker's "promise" of bringing the price down to $450 and wanted $625 after core. At first when I showed him the $444.88 price, he was that is way under cost (which it has been since updated on BMW of South Atlanta's website) and i can go a little over $500. I sorta stormed away to see if the car salesman that sold me my car could help, he could not. When I came back, the same part's manager then came with a best price of $625. This is at which point I laughed it off and walked away.
On an unrelated note, this same guy can't seem to find the replacement key that I ordered through him, and was never called to come pick it up. I swear this place is the most disorganized I've ever dealt with. 3rd time in a row I was not called after ordering a part..... Bought the hpfp at eeuroparts.com for $474.99 + $55 core charge. Should ship Tuesday next week, as they are out of stock.
