N55 wastegate rattle?
So on a cold start if i try to get onto any kind of boost, it will rattle (just like any normal wastegate while it is settling)... Now when the car is warmed up and i get on it a little bit and let off, i hear the tiniest slightest turbo rattle (i have to really try to listen for it). The car holds boost great. I heard a tiny tiny amount is normal. The car is a 2013 335i e92 6MT with 24k miles on it. I do have just jb4 g5 ISO on the car with chargepipe with proper settings. Should i be worried and take it to my SA? The car is under warranty until July 2017.

If you have a JB4, you can adjust menus 10 and 12 to get rid of wastegate rattle.

Menu 10 is default wastegate position and menu 12 is base duty cycle. Menu 10 should be set between 0-5. Menu 12 should be set between 2.5-3.8.
Every car is different but for me, lowering those values will reduce/eliminate wastegate rattle. I've seen some people say that raising the values will reduce the rattle. Also, lowering the settings will reduce throttle response and make your exhaust note deeper with more backfiring/gargling noises while raising the settings will increase throttle response but will reduce exhaust noises. You will have to find the settings that work best for your car. You can change these settings through your steering wheel menu or JB4 program on your computer.

Mine does it on startup as well. It takes about 15-30 seconds or so before the rattle noise goes away and the exhaust note changes. I don't know if it's normal. I don't experience any specific issues, but if it's an indicator of one, I'd like to get it figured out. I'm tempted to take it to the dealer while the car is still under warranty.

I asked the same question to my SA here in Canada and he told me its totally normal.
The car build boost and as soon as the car warms up the rattle is gone.

I had the same issue. Stock car, 2011 N55 with 44,000KM on it.
Made some noises on cold start and when revs came down. I took it to dealer and they replaced my turbo under warranty at 50,000KM. After wards, the SA said that some wastegate rattle is normal on the N55. I hear it a bit now again after i added JB4, but very very minimal compared to before. You should be fine. |

I just installed my JB4 and have the same noise. Im assuming its normal. You can adjust settings 10-12 to try and fix the issue. i lowered my setting 10 from 3000 to 2900 and made my idle a bit chopppy but still slight rattle

I updated the JB4 interface software on my computer last night. I noticed that they added an anti-rattle setting in the User Adjustment tab that will change the Future Use D. It works really well! OP, you may want to try that. If anyone else wants to try it, open the JB4 interface, go to User Adjustment then click the "Bits" button next to Future Use D. It will ask you a series of questions and one of them will be to use the anti-rattle feature.
