you should read this write up by picus (our detailing guru) ! BMW paints are baked and you can clay, polish, seal/wax the first day you get the car. And many recommended it to get all the rail dust off! Alot of people do the new car prep themselves, to avoid "dealer installed swirls" Hope that helps! |

Man, this myth spread like wildfire.
The only time you need to wait is after you get a re-paint at a body shop or something, they usually don't bake the paint. |

My car will be here in a few weeks and my plan is to claybar and Zaino it as soon as it gets home from the dealer. The paint is obviously plenty dry and this way I can start with the cleanest/scratchless car for everything. Get it good and protected from the beginning.

I'm having some ED damage repaired before I get mine back. I don't know if it will be done by VPC or at the dealer. Should I wait to get the clear bra on for a while?

The factory paint is 100% cured when you get the car, tahnks to the special curing "ovens" the car goes through.
I had this info confirmed by the local factories paint manufacturer You can wax it immediately

On topic: All cars, except some Volvo's, come baked from the factory and can be sealed/waxed right away. There is no better time to get the cars paint off to the right start, imo. |

I caught a rock and had about a 2 inch scratch on the top of the hood, passenger side almost at the windshield and than a large chip in the windshield. It sounded like an asteroid hit the car. It was very loud! Yes there will need to be some paint done on the hood. I'm not sure how far the overspray will be though. I wish I had a good picture of it, but I don't.

I'm just suffused with snow and am not too eager to detail outside in the cold. So, since ownership back in September, I have never waxed my car.

I waxed it immediately after returning home from PCD. I usually do a detail every few weeks...I used the Griot's hand polish, Best of Show Wax, and Sealant so I only need a wash/dry and wheel cleaning...here and there...

My garage is too full of my step-father's junk to pull any car into the garage. It's almost sacrilegious parking the car outside, but that's the life of my car.
