Yes we do. We escort US Vessels all over but we don't actively patrol those regions.

wait...plz explain how the US navy has anything to do with policing the horn of africa? i agree with most everyone that the pirates are way out of line, but don't drag the US navy into this...it's not even remotely their fault. these captures happen in international waters...which technically is anyone's game. all these ships are defenseless because there are many countries which these cargo ships visit that strictly prohibit firearms of any kind...so no commercial vessels carry armed personnel. should they? i believe so...but then again, i'm not the imperial world ruler. it is what it is, but don't drag the US navy into it.

oh by the way, do you know how big of an area that is we're talking about? there isn't a battleship armada for every ship that passes through that vast area. hundreds of ships pass through that area everyday, 99% of them make it just fine...it's always that one ship that you read about in the news.

my brother was stranded without fuel and the current was taking him into a wall of rocks
british navy came by.. boarded the speedboat with guns because it was near one of their "bases", once they found out they weren't terrorists or spies, they just left them without even towing them to a nearby marina...

my bro was like "dude can you at least tug us out of harm's way?"
the army guy was like "not in our job description"

well I just mean that hiring gun men on a vessel on let's say 40 vessels is not worth the cost
+ all the paper work, formalities at port for carrying weapons
and all the licenses... it would cost a ridiculous amount

easy solution: NATO officers. cost: exponential. in the end, not worth it.
