Long story short, there was a downpour thunderstorm in long island, new york yesterday and my e90 stalled in the middle of the intersection. I was able to restart the engine after the 3rd try and slowly pulled the car out the water.

And this morning, I can't start my e90

I have called geico, and they are going to send an inspector for an assessment on the flood damage. so my questions is what are the chances that they will be able to repair my car? it's still a baby with only 40k mileage on it.

Repair water damage? Hope they total it. You don't want a BMW with electrical problems. Theoretically you should pour a bucket of water in your trunk and all over the electrics, the car is not worth the problems you'll have later.

Its a car not a boat lol. Did you not know it was that deep? If you were the only car in the intersection then I can maybe see why you went through it.

before we flame the guy for being a U-Boat commander just give him any information you may have. If not, assume the driver got himself in a situation where the water did not look as high to him.

And before we access his electronics are shot and he should commit fraud maybe someone had a similar experience and can help him.

Well I saw a few similar class cars went through the intersection fine and the water just didn't look as high as it would stall/damage my bmw. sigh...

Okay, I did the SAME thing last year in my 325i. Your motor is "water locked" and that means the car is totaled.

You MUST tell your insurance company that it was a flash flood and that you didn't drive through the water... Your rate will not get killed and you will get $ for your car.

Take your car to BMW dealer you trust and demand that he get top dollar out of the insurance adjuster. (I got more than mine was worth).

OP, demand a very expensive place, like a dealer, for top dollar so you hit the limit for your car to be totaled. Not worth the hassle of electrical problems down the road and depreciation when it comes time to sell/trade the car.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have already told Geico what happened, and the has CSR told me that it's not my fault for this incident (thank god) and they are going to send an inspector to check the flood damage.

With that been said, currently my car is a dead on the street and there is street cleaning tomorrow (another possible ticket). Should I just call my local BMW dealership and have them tow my e90 to their repair shop for an assessment instead of waiting for the Geico inspector?

A little update.

Trying to get a hold of Geico auto damage adjuster was a real pain in the ass. The lady called me around 11am with a voice mail and when I tried to return the call, she's not available for the rest of the day.

Eventually 4pm came and I finally gave up on calling the adjuster's department, I contacted Geico claim support directly. The CSR was nice enough to set up another tow truck to have my BMW towed to the nearest BMW service center.

The BMW service center contacted me this morning and told me that they have received the car, and will try to have it checked up by Monday.

This is what others were referring to about Geico.

The lady damage adjuster probably has a legit reason that she has the afternoon off, kids or other personal stuff, so we shouldn't complain about that. We all take an afternoon off once or twice a decade, it just so happens it is Friday.

And water, electrical damage is going to be a long, extensive job. I would be happy if the dealer got back to me by mid-week. If the car isn't written off, expect the repairer to find additional damage as the initial damage is begun.

a good friend of mine from high school drove his 2006 acura TL INTENTIONALLY into a mini-valley at the backroads during a monstrous downpour because he thought he was a uboat commander...the car would have made it out OK if he didn't stop giving it gas but the second he let go of the pedal, the engine hydrolocked

then he opened the door and floodgates opened...

I was in a 4runner as i laughed hysterically while he had to call his dad to get him out

Hydrolocked motor is no bueno. Happens to people with cold air intakes all the time (especially in rainy states)

Your fault has nothing to do with it. It comes under the comprehensive coverage of your policy, even if you were dumb enough to drive through a river . . unless of course it was intentional, and then they could deny your claim. But of course that would be impossible to prove absent your admission.

How the hell are we suppose to know? You dont even know why your car stalled out let alone have us diagnose or know if its repairable. If you have already called your insurance company why are you even asking us? Let them deal with it. Good luck on getting your contender fixed.

Another update,

BMW service center just called and they told me that there is no major damage to my BMW. Only HID headlights, air filters, battery, and some minor stuff will need to be replaced or cleaned. With labor and everything, it's going to be around 4200 dollars for repair.

As far as out of the pocket cost, I will have to wait until Geico adjuster finishes her inspection and gives me the cost/quote.

I'd have them change spark plugs and oil too if that is not on the list.

Usually if you get water into the motor it isn't the end of the world if you dont snap a rod or something.

First and foremost is do not try to start it right away.

The best thing to do is not turn the car on if you get water in the motor.

It's best to pull over (if you can), and pull the spark plugs out, then crank the motor and the water will shoot out where the spark plugs would normally be.

You should keep some handy tools available to you in case of emergency in the future.
If your not handy enough to do the above, then simply call road side assistance and make sure they dont start the car until spark plugs are removed and the water can be evacuated.

This. Hydrofucked motors are just a heartbreak.
