starter motor playing up :(
i have a e90 325i 2005
one day im driving the car fine, the next morning the car decides not to start. did the jump start and everything to only find that the starter motor was playing up.. long story short, had to use a pole to tap the starter motor while someone pressing on the ignition button.. soo at the moment, it starts on some days and some days it wont start.. anyone else having this problems? or any suggestions on how to fix this with out replacing.. cause it cost approx 1.5k to fix |

Man that brings back memories of my old Datsun 1000. Sounds like the brushes, you could either try an auto electrician or buy a second hand one from the wreckers.

I think I may be having same issue as you. Are your symptoms the same as on my thread?

Your problem sounds more like the one I had. There is a module in the steering column that recognizes the fob, mine started playing up with not starting, no click, everything was powered, I'd have to actually get out of the car lock it (I have comfort access) unlock get in and it was fine and would start. Lucky for me it was under warranty and dealer replaced the entire column.

ye it wasnt an easy fix..
they have to dig deep into the engine bay to get to the starter motor and on the way also replace the bolts and head gasket seals. but luckily i got mine fix for a reasonable price at a independant bmw workshop in melbourne. now it starts like new again |
