Question iDrive can't see iPhone 4 music or play list

I just purchased a used 2011 335is that was manufactured in late 2010. I'm able to link my iPhone 4 via BlueTooth and see my contacts and place calls. However, I am not able to see any music. When I go to multi-media it shows the USB selection as "Unsupported" when I plug in my iPhone. I updated my iPhone to the latest iPhone version, 4.3.5, but it still didn't solve the problem. I have an old nano (first nano produced), and when it's plugged into the USB the iDrive recognizes it and allows selection of music, calendars, etc.

What do I need to do to be able to play music from my iPhone 4?

Any help would be appreciated!

Regards,
KeithB

What cable and which USB port are you using?

I'm using a standard iPod cable (which works with the older iPod Nano, but not the iPhone 4). I don't have the 'Y' adapter, but I didn't think they were necessary anymore.

I've tried both the USB port in the glove box and in the console.

Thanks,
