This is for people with aftermarket headunits only.


Here's what you need:

Metra 70-9003
(Plugs into your Dash Harness)





Metra 71-9003
(Plugs into your OEM Radio)

Instructions:

You need to run five wires from the dash to the trunk. Three of the wires are to connect pins 9, 11 and 15 on 71-9003 to pins 9, 11 and 15 on 70-9003. The two remaining wires are for a small speaker (8 Ohm) so you can hear the chimes. This speaker gets mounted in the OEM location under the driver's side dash. Pin 12 on 71-9003 gets grounded in the trunk.

EDIT:

This is very important. DO NOT assume that all the pinouts are correct on the Metra 70-9003 and Metra 71-9003 wiring harnesses. You MUST verify that all the pins are in the correct places. Depending on where you got the harness, you have have to move some around.

I haven't checked yet but I think the PDC chime only plays on the rear speakers. So I think if you connect a speaker to the rear outputs you'll hear the chime. I'll check it out.

I tried to fasten it onto a loudspeaker the pdc sound and the gong sound. very quiet. a probable separate loudspeaker is needed to get it.

is the 8 ohms of loudspeaker good exclusively?
4 oms loudspeaker i tried. This problem is probable.

I don't understand... you tried a 4ohm speaker and it's fine?

I used a small oem speaker I had from my old E46. It's 2" or 2.5" and it snaps right into place in the oem location under the driver's side dash.

Try turning up the gong volume on the oem radio. It's in the settings.

+12volt on ignition. not good solution.

There is a 41 Pin connector in the driver's side footwell (pass side if your car is RHD). Tap into Pin # 3 for Ignition. Use a relay.

You're welcome. That's the only place that I know of where you can get a true ignition/accessory 12V+.

If my assumption is correct, those are much larger than anything used for a standard wire pin or Molex connector. Just a guess here...but I'd gamble they are for the fiber optic cables. The CD changer harness in the trunk has two which look dead on to these.

Guys: if you want to learn about your own cars you will have to start also disassembling your own cars to learn. DIY can go only as far as the reader is willing to go. Most of the questions in this forum are simply based on fear and not in anything even resembling difficulty or technical problems, IMO.

The gong volume very quiet.

I pedaled up in settings the gong volume.

From what maybe, that the gong volume small? Tipp?

For those with Logic 7 - will we also have to extend the optical wire to the trunk as well - or will just the 5 mentioned above be fine as well?
