A new twist on performance exhaust

You want the most power from your exhaust?

You made the y-pipe starting from where? A pic of the whole exhaust would be nice.

It's hard to say, but I prefer single exhaust (and usually most race teams do too) because of the lighter weight. The Y pipe should be as close to the exhaust manifolds as possible for the best possible scavenging.

I originally had Burns make me this as part of a group buy for my previous BMW, but I'm thinking I might use it for this car. If I was a betting man, I'd say a properly designed exhaust is good for an estimated 10whp. The truth of exhaust are that power isn't really made past the actually merger, but you can lose power due to restriction. With this piece, I'd say I could make the most of those potential gains.

So you're saying this would be put in as close to the headers as possible and then have a single pipe all the way from there?

I saw this pipe on e46 and some e36 forum last year. Good idea. good luck!

My custom exhaust is a Y pipe into 3" into 135i muffler. Dynos showed a 5 hp 5tq over a stock 128i of someone elses dyno , so an indirect comparo

I was going to do this when I posted that thread last year. After installing my headers, I decided to keep my exhaust stock and remove the secondary cats. The resonator and stock muffler are still there. My car is quiet unless you're on it which is what I was going for. These cars aren't fast so I decided I didn't want something loud.

However...

If you were to take this on, install and see a relatively decent gain I would rethink this. Right now I am finishing up my turbo e30 and then either going to do a manual swap on the e90 or trade it in on a new 2 series M car.
