Just put the deposit on my new AW 335i! Thoughts?

Hey Guys,

I hate to say goodbye to Nikki (my 01' 330ci with a beautiful 156,000 miles on it now!) but I get to say hello to my new girl. Check out the link - I made out well on price, but wanted to get some feedback and see if anyone had any history on the car. Since its lightly modded I figured someone might have something on it - carfax is clean and it has the 100k warranty (which I will have to go back to stock on the downpipes to maintain). I drive about 30k miles a year for my work, so the warranty was big to me.

Excited to now have an e92!!

I was hoping to see a M-sport E90, because I wish I got AW. I love my Space though. That E92 looks delicious though.

I don't know - this looks to have been modded by a hack. Those aftermarket headlamps are horrible. What other mods are on the car?

I'd be real leery buying a modded car as a daily driver for 30k miles a year.

I shopped at Donahoo last year and they have a nice site and good prices. They seem upfront about cars with issues.

I considered a few and was close to pullining the trigger but a car came up in ATL and itw as the right color combo and price was right.

I worred about the size of their operatation and the fact I would get there by plane and be too swayed to compromise or have to settle on another choice. But like I said the car fax's are waht they are and they seem upfront with very little complaints against them.

For me, and its a big arguement in these parts, but I would stay away from modded cars and that turbo engine for all reasons mentioned. For me, I might put only 8k miles on this car a year, don't worry about warranty cuz low miles tally would be a waste for me and Im planning on keeping this one about 8 years until the kids are out of school. with short commute there is little place for me to open this car up and really drive it so in my mine driving 4 miles one way to work is not worth the performance premium I would seldom have a chance to use. If that was different I would easily pick a e46 M3 over a 335i.

Thats just me.

Make no bones about it, the 335i is a wonderful car with a wonderful engine. I have sport and 6mt and I love my 328i. Only the turbo is difference. Great cars either way.

I suppose you got the extended warranty from Donahoo? Whats your take on it?

This car actually has a CPO on it. I ran it through my local dealership and they confirmed it has 100k CPO and 50k maintenance. I just need to get the stock exhaust parts on it to get it back into warranty. That was the big selling point for me - Im not too worried about the engine/turbo with just the exhaust mods since it has the warranty on it - I dont plan on doing anything to it to bring it out of warranty anyway.

Then you'd better put stock bulbs in as well. The dealer could very well refuse warranty service on many parts of your electrical system based on those aftermarket bulbs.

THe term "CPO" has become diluted.

Its the official BMW one? Thats good.

Sounds like you've done your homework!

You can bet that the previous owner also had a piggyback but removed it and sold it privately before selling the car.

Theres almost no doubt it had it. Whether it did or not doesnt bother me as long as no codes will void the warranty.

Yep, CPO warranty - I made SURE to check this with Hendrick BMW in Charlotte before buying the car. It shocked me it was CPO being sold at a private dealer but that is the case.

Price was $25,000, think I made out pretty well.

Ive also been very impressed with David over at Donohoo so far. He has bent over backwards sending me pics of it on the rack and the aftermarket DPs and checking to make sure the harnesses for the 02 Sensors are still in tact. Definitely a good experience so far, still have 50% to go though.

They have a sick inventory of BMWs though.

you mean the AE? I think the headlights are OEM - just focus that close to the camera makes them look like that. If they arent OEM bulbs are definitely going back in, and AE too if it will void the warranty.

I think that is fair for the options and CPO. Smart thing to run the VIN through the dealer. I've do this for BMWs, the SAs are pretty good about it. Really can save your butt if they find some issues with a car you are about to buy.

Good luck..nice looking ride.

Yes the AE are definitely aftermarket. BMW stock lights are not ricer blue like those!

Yep, both the AE and headligh bulbs are aftermarket.

You might want to get a complete list of modifications.

For me, DPs combined with blue bulbs is enough to convince me that the car was treated very badly by the prior owner. Even if the mods are removed you have no guarantee that you won't have issues - both with the car and with the warranty.

There have had to have been at least two owners for it to be sold as CPO at a non-BMW dealer.

Well see about the bulbs..everytime Ive taken a picture closeup of xenons they always come out blue in the pictures like that - theres a good chance they are after market though so well see. Any good places I could get OEM bulbs for that?

there are two prior owners on it as well - how does the CPO work at a non-bmw dealer? I couldnt figure out how they could CPO that car.

Could you tell me how much they were asking for the car? Does that price include tax/title/etc.?

Saw a Lexus IS350 on their site that my bro-in-law is interested in..hope that they are negotiable on price and willing to ship.

TIA

Original price was 26k, and I paid just under 25k... At one point I think they were asking 27 because of the CPO and realize since it was posted at 26k they couldnt raise the price.

they werent terribly negotiable on price at first, but I let it sit for a few weeks since I dont really NEED the car, then made an offer and they accepted.

Only fee was $150 processing fee - I have to pay registration and taxes once I get it back to North Carolina. Good people to deal with, I would recommend speaking with David - Ive read some negative things about another salesguy over there but I cant remember who it was.

Ill let you know how the rest of my experience is, going to pick her up on Saturday.
