Out of control brake dust.....

Hey guys I picked up my 07 e90 this past weekend and I've been driving it for about 2 days now. I'm absolutely in love with the car and it's everything I could've asked for and more But I've noticed that after 2 days of driving it the brake dust is absolutely out of control. The car was squeeky clean when I picked it up on saturday and now the wheels are just about black. I got a PPI and everything checked out great and I don't see anything wrong with the breaks, but I just can't deal with having dirty wheels and/or having to clean my wheels every two days. Has anybody else had this problem? What can I do to cure this? Thanks for any help given....

I have "hyper silver" rims that have been charcoal since day 1, and I clean them relentlessly. Methinks I might need to upgrade my brake kit one of these days...

Your guess is correct! I've owned many autos in my day and never have seen any breaks spit that much dust out, ridiculous really. It's bad enough the dust is out of control but it spews all over the side of the car and mines alpine white which makes it that much worse. I mean I'll just deal with it if I have no other choice but I'm sure there is a solution out there.....

Cool Carbon brake pads will decrease your dusting by 80% after they have been fully bedded in. Not only that, but they'll give you the great performance in braking that your BMW deserves. Cool carbon pads are great for street and track. Maybe give those a shot

i have the same issue, i clean my wheels meticulously, take my car out for a couple of hours and see the new layer of dust. Its a pain but would you rather have brakes that are clean and that dont stop? (G37)

Look at my post just above yours. You shouldn't have to compromise, that's why Cool Carbon pads are what I as well as Mr. 5, a moderator on these boards suggest:

Cool Carbon Brake Pads Installed! (Coupon Code Included)

I hope that helps!

Yeah, I really need to get on the ball and change out the pads. So tired of having completely black wheels. I always made fun of people with BMW's because their wheels were always dirty and now I see why.

On the other hand, the stock brakes are amazing compared to cars I've had in the past. I'm still getting used to how hard they grab after 5 months of ownership.

Heres a question, if your just going to throw on pads are the any issues of getting codes? Those carbons sure sound like the answer.

I can't put into words how much I hated the stock brake pads. I am totally happy with Cool Carbons.

If happy with the OEM feel and braking characteristics, but would like something that dusts (quite) a bit less, then pick up the post 09/2009 OEM pads.

If installed properly, you wont have any squealing noises after they're bedded in

B3AST I understand that you're new BMW owner, but you'll find in the search this subject is cover extensively. There are many types of products and personal reviews on this subject.

I too am constantly cleaning my wheels.

I already asked my stealership about different pads after the 1st week of owning the car - the BMW pads are by far the WORST pads I have EVER used for dusting. They told me they got nuttin, no optional performance pads - no nuttin.

When I asked about putting on different pads - they stated they would not install different pads other than stock during warranty. If I wanted to put my own pads on - that was my business. But when it came time to replace under the warranty - they would take them off and replace with the stock pads again.

Also told me that if 'my' pads eat the rotors - they would not be covered under the warranty. Typical BMW service...
