Much nicer people, i feel like Portland may have not done what they said, when i got the car back it was half washed, it was terrible it would have been betterbif it wasnt washed, they were absolutely packed and i really felt like i was at a chevrolet dealer the way i was treated.. sry for spelling/gramatical errors, im on my phone

Here is a video i created of the engine fan on full blast. This was my first sign even though all temps were normal.. it would come on for 20 seconds then go off for 20

Your engine bay is really dirty lol

Mine died the day before Cinco De Mayo

On Saturday was heading back up to Irvine, from visiting some friends in San Diego. Temperature warning light went from yellow to red and lost power. Took almost an hour for tow truck to arrive and took it to Crevier. I called dealer while waiting for tow, and they had a loaner ready. Got to the dealer about 15 minutes before they closed.

My CPO and extended maintenance just expired on 04/30 - so the SA is going to contact BMW to see what they can do.

Driving a 2013 3 series with Nav, leather with about 6k on the odometer. Nice car, but the 4 cylinders just doesn't cut it. Now, the fuel gauge has been on "full" for about two days (moderate driving) and that's really nice. The auto stop/start takes getting used to.

Dealer hasn't called back yet, but I'm hoping they/BMW can do something for me. My 335i was just in the shop about two weeks ago for the battery recall, brake flush and rear brake/rotor replacement.

BMW should issue a recall for these crappy waterpumps. It's inexcusable.

Mine died at 70K. Was going to DIY and got all the parts ($550) but local shop wanted only $240 for labor, so I decided to let them do it. Definitely better than the dealer.

BMW Does Good

As an update to the water pump failure I experienced this past weekend, I informed by the SA at Crevier that BMW would cover the cost of the repair As a single dad putting my only daughter through college, this is truly a blessing.

Thank you BMW and Crevier.

My 07 335i's water pump went out exactly as you described at about 75k miles. Cost me another 1500 bucks to get the old babe up and running again

It failed on my E46 M3 around 40k miles....Sometimes I wonder how people make cars that dont have anything fail for 200k miles...water pumps, oil pumps, even clutches go 200k

Sweet I was curious what the telltale sign was for a WP failure. That fan sound's pretty unique and super loud. Thx everyone.

Here was my dealer quote from over a year ago.

I ended up doing all the work myself, but the prices for OEM parts at the dealer were:

WP $624
TS $114

But this was before I knew about discounted OEM parts through getbmwparts.com. You can get OEM parts there for:

WP $390
TS $97

I dont have it on me at the moment but I think Mike Miller recommends preventative maintenance (replacement) with the water pump @ 60K miles. For the record...you should NOT try to restart and drive your car once the RED light comes on regarding the engine warning light.

My water pump went at 49K miles.

Did you know it was the WP right away? How could you tell?

No, I thought it was low coolant at first. A yellow warning light (temp signal) popped up a couple of times and went away. I drove to the dealer to pick up coolant and as soon as I drove into the lot my car went into limp mode. The yellow light came came back on. Turned the car off, tried to start the car and the temp warning light turned red, and the car wouldn't start. I grabbed my SA and said i think it is my water pump...15 min later he confirmed.

I am probably the luckiest e90 owner to go into limp mode on the dealer's lot My warranty took care of the water pump but I had to pay for the t-stat.

I see, I was trying to get a feel for what to look for. Someone else said something similar:

Same exact symptoms for me. Had a low coolant light a couple of days before the WP went out. Luckily for me it happened 2 miles from home. Was driving on the freeway when I turned on the A/C, it was blowing nothing but hot air. Immediately after I got a yellow light followed by a red light.
The new WP's have a rubber opening if I remember right where you insert the bolts.
Bought everything online and installed it myself for under $500, dealer and indy shops wanted over 1k. Did it all in one day.

Cool, there is a lot of complaints about how it is a PITA to get to. We'll cross that bridge when we get there though. Can't wait to start DIY'ing some stuff. First oil change should be in a couple months, excited.

lol. Not *quite* as lucky, but on a road trip to Boston I had my HPFP go out right at exit 148 on the Garden State Parkway. Pulled over in limp mode and looked up BMW dealers in the NAV. Bloomfield BMW was within 1000 ft. Took the exit and coasted into the dealership lot.

Oil change is very easy on the car. Less of a chance getting dirty since the filter is on top. Don't get too hopeful, last thing you want is having to fix a bunch of crap
It was a PITA but nothing that can't be done, don't need an expert for it. What took me the most was moving the hoses around to put the thermostat in. For the love of life I couldn't get it to go in.

Ha, ikr. Yeah i meant mainly the oil changes. I just really haven't even had a chance to familiarize myself with the engine layout. Shoot, i've only popped the hood a couple times in the first few weeks i've had her.
