2K7E is the BMW trouble code for Won't chirp 2nd gear. You need to scan for that.

Four reasons:

1.) To save gas. vs V8
2.) To keep miles on M3 low so that it retains value.
3.) To not buy snows for the M3.
4.) To enjoy the M3 more when I do drive it.

#4 is the biggest reason. Daily driving the M3, causes me to forget how awesome it is and get bored with it. Yet taking it out at night when the roads are empty or on the weekend, allows me to always enjoy it and reminds me why I'm paying a fortune for it. (still owe $45,000 CAD on it)

5.) M3 is DCT, 330 is MT. I enjoy both and it's nice changing between them.

I can understand all the reasons except the 2nd. I'm pretty sure you've heard the saying, but I'm gonna say it. Not driving your car to retain value is like not screwing your girlfriend to save her for the next guy. Haha but the gas mileage difference would do it for me.

haha yeah cars are not an investment, they lose value even if you don't drive it. Just having it sit around, and not enjoying driving it, to get a few more dollars when you sell it seems like a waste of your money paying for it. I doubt a 30-40k difference in miles would get you more than a few thousand dollars. I feel like the year is a huge factor even if miles are low. (very old car, low miles will get less money than a fairly new car with a bit more miles). Gas mileage difference is valid though!

You're both right it's just that with the extra miles comes extra wear and tear. With that car I want to keep it in 100% pristine condition and that's expensive to do when it's your daily. The extra power isn't usable in day to day driving and so it's just a stupid waste. Would rather save the street miles and add race track miles. 😈

Fair enough. What I would do is buy an older one with low miles, then dump a few thousand $$$ into motor and suspension/steering upgrades or just general maintenance items. Then you have a mechanically almost new and pristine skeleton with an older body that you don't owe tons of money on that can sit in the garage until you want to have some fun. But I do understand the joy of having that nice new shiny car. I just don't have the money to be able to afford it so I'd go the cheap tuner route. I also enjoy wrenching though...

Can't believe there's been no "buy a 335" comment(s). They must be sleepy.

I'm currently playing with my 02 sensors, and my symptoms can be summed up with "can't chirp 2nd anymore" too. lol. I've replaced all of em but the cheap ebay pieces of shit keep failing after a week. At least I'm almost done waiting on another one to ship.

Oh man 02s are expensive! I'm hoping to get another 60,000 km out of mine before I change them. Coils are in the mail.

Stay away from cheap Chinese crap.

The 335 is too error prone for a second car. HPFP , fancy injectors, turbo issues, no thanks. NA all the way 😋

Can't chirp second ever, and it constantly feels underpowered. My other car is an e92 m3 so I'm not sure if I'm crazy or not. My old e46 ZHP would chirp second on every shift even at 307,000KM
If you still have the CDV, you're not going to be chirping anything. All you're doing is ruining your clutch.

It's been on the manual cars for more than 12 years, possibly more than 15. Look at your master cylinder. It's there.

The valve has changed over the years, so it's different year to year. Check with Zechhaussen.

Late e9x 335 xDrive cars will look like this:

Note: The M5 never got this, but I'm not sure about the E9x M3 (it WAS on the e46), it would be nice to know for the record.

Whole point of the CDV is that it allows for more clutch slippage to save the driveline from shock. Technically, that is going to reduce clutch life.

likely true, but the clutch will still last for ~200k if you don't abuse it.

Very true, but on all my manual cars I've preferred not to have the manufacturer nanny my clutch technique

If you can properly rev match between downshifts (like a lot of us), this thing was just plain annoying. If you're trying to launch the car or are doing high load shifts (say on track) they actually slow engagement enough to accelerate clutch and flywheel wear.

If you're doing a lot of parallel parking the damn things are totally infuriating.

Haha really? I parallel park all the time and I don't have a problem with it? I'm usually slipping the clutch the whole time I'm parallel parking anyways.
