This is exactly right and my fuse was blown but more importantly how and why.

When the monkey at the garage installed my valve cover he pinched the o2 sensor wire and shorting it.

Have now found some first class installers and they are sorting the car and fitting my new RB Stealths

Wow! all that time and money and thousands in new parts and maybe thousands more in labor if you paid someone for labor and was the turbos all along. I went back and read through the thread and we said to rule out turbos in early feb but I don't see if you did that early on. Oh well. Rob is doing the right thing now but I would have ruled out turbos early on before replacing all those parts. Should have dropped the downpipes and checked those turbos right away IMHO.

Totally agree.

Labour overhead was a bit cheaper than you might think. Valve cover might not have needed changing but it's better for it in the long run. I have done half this work .

Downpipes where also shagged by a dumb arse exhaust installer. So bought wagner ones now

I defo should have whipped off the turbos way back then but in my mind I just spent ages getting them fitted and that idea felt overkill.

Robs response to try all else before blaming the turbos is what lead to this long winded endeavour

Now that I have bigger blowers I need PI .shit this thing better do 10'so at the pod.

Good luck man! Those bigger turbos Rob is sending can move a lot of air! When are you getting them?

Well, well....It looks like RB turbos are inherently prone to blowing seals, then? So many threads of RB turbo'd cars smoking and culprit almost always the seals blowing, and too soon at that.

After months of smoking I finally had enough and reinstalled the mid-cats. While doing so I had the shop inspect the turbos and they found that the rear turbo is blown. I have a little less than a month before my 1 year warranty is up, but I don't know if I'll have the time to get these out before then. Rob has been very helpful so far. And these turbos still perform beastly even with the blown seals.

Just to add some background info on my setup: I've had these installed for almost a year now. About 27,000 miles. Been boosting 25-27psi daily, and I drive it hard. I don't think RB's were designed to run more than 21psi efficiently. Maybe if I had outlets to match the inlets it might be a slightly different story.

However, even with the rear turbo in the condition it's in, I'm still hitting 25psi every pull tapering to 21psi at redline. Here is my most recent log:

you should just send them back asap. Rob will sort them for free and if you pay a little extra get an upgrade.

That's the plan. Just waiting for my mechanic to have the time to pull them out.

What part of the upgrade prevents the turbos from smoking again?
Ive got a set that I want to send back to Rob for a rebuild and upgrade to next gens, but I'm concerned about dropping more cash and ending up with the same problem

They smoke when the seals allow oil to pass through. New seals will fix that.

Yep thanks. but what is it about the upgrade to next gens that prevents the seals from failing again?? Are improved seals being used?
Literally had these turbos rebuilt less then 12 months ago before they started smoking?
