Detroit area: where to get wheels powder coated?

I have winter wheels which are "super silver", looking to get them to matte gray (similar to the stock m3 18's).

Anybody have a good shop in the Detroit area and know the cost?

No, but if you find one; post the info on here. I might be interested in having mine done.

to be honest, you can get basically the same look with a gunmetal spray can from duplicolor. I had my winters done with that and its just about the same shade, it'll cost you about $50 total for the job instead of $500.

I'll ask a buddy tomorrow and post back, he get's his wheels painted all the time and i don't think he's ever had any issues with them. IMO painting them with a can yourself isn't going to last long. It's basically the same as painting your grill, and people have to redo that a few times a summer...

no they don't chip that easily... at least not any easier than any other painted rim.

as long as you follow the direction of painting steps (clean, prep, prime -2 coats, paint 2-4 coats, and possibly clear coat if you want to, then let it cure for 24 hrs or longer in a clean dry area) you'll be fine. They come out well, maybe not as nice or flawless as powdercoating is but if you coat fairly evenly you should be able to do a good enough job where they don't look like some cheap DIY and look like they came that color or a shop did um for you.

no, its also different paint used. Duplicolor makes specific grade paint just for wheels that is pretty durable to the elements. Like I said above, follow the proper steps and they'll last a while. I won't lie, just like anything else painted, they will need to be repainted like maybe every 2-3 years depending on how much crap they go through, but even powdercoating fades with time. My CSL's, which are matte black powdercoated from EAS, have some spots that could use a touch up and they're only 2-3 yrs old.
