Has anyone had problems with there power steering in the past ?
On a few occasions this year my car has been started up and the
power steering has failed to come on and i get the warning light
(yellow steering wheel) and loss of power steering. If i leave it for
twenty mins or so and try again it was working fine.

My car runs out of warranty next month so i thought i better get it
checked out, turns out that i need a new steering rack !!
I have heard that a few E92s have suffered this problem.
Im just lucky that its being covered under warranty as i think
it could get pretty expensive for a new one !

It is a well known and common E9X problem. Get it covered under warranty now, cause it costs roung 800-900 GBP.

Any luck with the steering rack????

My E92 has been in Warrington dealership for the past 2.5 weeks!!! They say they dont even have ETA for this part no??

Any advise what I can do to speed this up?

I had three steering racks in my E92 shortly before I rejected it (not just for that ).
Apparently, one was a brand new part that was faulty.
Go figure.....

I had an E46 M3 that needed the steering rack and pump replacing at about 60k miles. BMW replaced the lot although out of warranty as goodwill as they believed that at that mileage these items shouldn't fail. It was a matter of safety as the failure of the steering rack had produced metal swarf causing the pump to fail and the steering completely locked up, fortunately not at 70mph on the Motorway but on start up!
