cobb + jb4???
I'm running a completely stock '08 E90 n54 with manual tranny, except for latest Cobb AccessPORT.
I just got a JB4 G5 (it's upgraded because it has JB3 harness...which I'm not sure is good or bad). Question: Are there any advantages to running the Cobb and JB4 at the same time? If so, which maps on each? Question: What are the pros and cons of an upgraded JB4 with JB3 harness? I've never used the JB4 before, so I'm not sure about how the upgraded ones work vs the new G5 ISO. |

First update your jb3 cable.
Advantage of bms flash using cobb ap and jb4 is better boost control and smoother throttle. You can also run more e85 mixture. |

So, to upgrade to the jb4 harness, do I just find a jb4 cable and connect? Also, do all jb4 g5s (ISO and pre-ISO) have the same harness?

Unless you are an automatic and having issues with timing flatlines then no, there is no benefit to stacking them.

Is it only benefits to autos. Under WOT I feel uneven boost at times more with traction on. Will a pro tune just be better? What if I want to take advantage of the cool option you get like boost as the fuel gauge

To upgrade the JB3 harness to a JB4 harness you will also need the power wire sold by BMS, I believe it's $10 or something like that. Very easy to switch around wires using that Link to the DIY. There then will be no difference in your harness compared to what comes with the JB4 G5 board. You will have to do the diode thing...I'm not too sure how to do that as I'm running a G4 board on an updated JB3 harness and I didn't have to do the diode thing.
I'm sure you could def run the JB4 for the cool in-dash options. I guess just stacking maps won't be an advantage with a 6MT. Ill trade you my 6AT for your 6MT? lol I miss 3 pedals

That's what I was hoping for, to enjoy the best of both worlds. Map switching on the fly would be nice as well as in dash gauges features. I guess I just need to decide between the two types of tunes?

If you are an automatic and flatline after gear shifts and want to run more than e50 (should probably have an upgraded lpfp as well), the cobb bms flash + G5 iso is a great setup.

As, far as gauge hijacking goes, no you can't do that with Cobb alone. IMHO, with the exception of meth flow, gauge hijacking is more of a novelty than anything useful.

I use my Oil and Coolant temp gauge hijacks when I autoX. I also use the boost and boost target hijacks when I'm troubleshooting. Being able to see sensor output without the need of a laptop is fairly useful in my mind.

For tuning I highly recommend Cobb and getting your car pro tuned. JB4 is also nice for in-dash gauges but instead you could get a really nice P3 Cars Vent gauge. Its cheaper than a JB4 and gauge looks OEM in the vent. I haven't bought it yet but its definitely up there on the list. For 6ATs there is an advantage in stacking the JB4 at the moment as some 6AT cars flatline timing in 5th gear at full throttle on Cobb only which matters if you are after every last 0.1sec at the dragstrip and the JB4 can help there but not everyone is into drag racing their BMW. I get my fun at the road course where BMW is meant to be driven
