Talking *** Results!! *** Dyno Day - feat. 120d, 130i, 320si, 330i, 335d, 335i, Procede V2 !!

Here we go - results from Dyno Day.

Global table, followed by individual charts.

All figures calculated at the crank using 12.7% MT loss and 15% AT loss adjustment. Cars run on a Dyno Dynamics Dynonameter with no correction in shootout mode

Thanks all for coming - good fun, hope you all enjoyed the day. James is sorry for scaring people silly by driving very fast sideways under the bridge. I'm still laughing at scaring people silly by demonstrating how quickly my car can go round corners in the teeming rain. Thank you Mr Quaife!

And thanks to Danny Emere and his crew at Marlow Motorworks for providing their expertise and services. And the bacon rolls, which went down a storm! Oh, and also Mr PG Tips man, who provided several boxes of teabags.. I only wish I left with one of those boxes...!

Oh, and James, congrats on getting 399.9 --- just want to point out though it's not technically 400... close though, close!!

PS - Figures quoted are calculated readings at the crank - Euro stylee...

Nice results, wish I could have been there, so we didn't have a re-map 335d there then ? :-( If I was Carlos I would be very pleased with those stock figures, looks like he does have bragging rights.

Also SJ must be gutted 0.1 off 400bhp, it makes you wonder what the 335i could have been if BMW hadn't clipped its wings ? probably monstering the M3 !!!

not gutted at all !

That's totally stock remember.

Didn't matter what we did we couldn't break that top figure... it was totally flow locked by the stock exhaust.

Gimme a cat back and I'll pull a 420 straight away

Downpipes and maybe a 440

Drop in airfilter and maybe a 445

Better map and maybe a 460

SJ

p.s. look at my torque curve, think I'm worried about e92 M3's ? think not

Great stats, and looks like you all had a great day! Appreciated the call from Bumps giving me an update and I heard james' car going through its paces in the background! Excuse the ignorance but why the difference in power output between standard stock 335ds? Hotcoupe 300bhp, 'da' carloti 310bhp and Evil 302bhp? Is it due to the fact carlos' engine has more miles under its belt which gives more horses?

Spot on Peter, we suspect it's simply a looser engine.

Amazing thing is the big D's were silky quiet when being dynoed.

Just amazing how quiet they were really

Loudest cars were the awsome 320si and Nick's stellar 130i !

What a little beast THAT is !

Tony, good to see it all in a table it gives a really good indication when you see compared to BMW figures. Makes you wonder if they have given a bit of Artistic licence to the '335i/d' numbers at the factory.

Aplogise you got no tea. I only had 2 boxes in the boot and others required it more.

1. Carlos for the Essex Patrol Police on their next visit to Fandango Towers
2. Danny at Marlow Motorworks - as we drank all his Tea.

thanks again.

Only jesting about the tea It does make you wonder about BMWs figures, but by and large the dyno readings were pretty much spot on so I can only suggest that BMW have 'made room' for the M3 at the top of the tree..!

Very, very impressive, I wonder what you could get with a re-map ?

I just wish there had been a re-mapped D there, although hopefully when Carlos gets his done he can be persuaded to take it back and get an after plot

I think you are right 335i vs M3. Every review has said the engine is a belter and with the BHP and more importantly the torque customers may wonder why they are paying 20 grand for +70hp and about 40lb/ft less torque.

I think BMW are being clever with this one.

Well technically it IS a remap, just handled in a different way to a Chip reflash.

Advantages are that I can tweak the map literally on the rolling road to get the figures or delivery I want.

yeah we were really hoping some Big D's would make a showing it would have given us an excellent broad spectrum of results.

I guess Steve got hung up somewhere.

James, impressive figures!! Understand your car is seriously quick.

Just found a place in Grimsby, Dynojet UK. May give them a ring & pop over & see what mine is now 'kicking out'.

I suppose, but I wonder what the guys who re-map could pull out of it if they could crack the ECU ? Does make you wonder why BMW chose to put a (currently) un-hackable ECU in the 335i ?

I think we know the answer in that a re-map, new exhaust, LSD and probably brakes may well eat the M3 for breakfast, plus in yours you can get a suntan

Good stuff.

Great to see some truely comparative measurements taken on the same day/conditions. Interesting stuff.

Don't use a Dynojet dyno, as the readings will not be so accurate. Find someone who has a Dyno Dynamics setup, as they are purportedly the most accurate and consistent type of dyno.

Looking at the figures Carlos gets, I wonder if you might be looking at 370+ i.e. 310 + 20% ?

Dynojet WILL give you an inflated figure. It's fine if you want to get a baseline and use the same piece of kit to measure the success of your mods.

But for an accurate fig i would recommend, as Tony says, the Austrailian Dyno Dynamics 4 wheel Dynamometer

It's not so good for pub bragging rights, but WILL give you a realiable and repeatable result (in theory)
