Park the car and leave it in N (neutral)

Hi. I'm new to the BMW e90. I just bought a 320d LCI, AT steptronic. I live in Bangkok, and in all shopping malls they do double parking, and they expect you to leave the car in N (Neutral), so they can push it, so other cars can get out.

What i have discovered so far. When I push stop while in N, engine won't shut down. So I have to put it in P, then use the stop-button. But then I'm not able to put it back in Neutral.

How can i do ??

Thanks for your help!

I know this won't answer your question, but that is INSANE . . . there is no way I'd let anyone push my car around without steering or brakes.

On non-start button cars, the only way I know to do that with an automatic is to have the ignition unlocked, which requires that the key is left in it. Not sure how you'd do that with the start button.

Hehe, it's not that insane. You park on straight line in a car park, and they only need to push 1-3 meters to get another car out. I prefer not to double park, but that's not always an option..

They do--they park like in NYC.

Been to both places: Bangkok, and of course I live near Manhattan. Parking space is tight in both places. And guess what? You get bumper kisses in both places. Actually less so in Thailand, 'cause they push the other car out of the way to get out instead of bumping it with their car.

I think that if you turn the car off in P then hit the button to get all the electronics running again you can hit the brake and shift it into gear without the engine running, but I don't know if you can take the key out of the slot when that happens.

then pull ur key out first and start the car again to put it in N.

also, by holding the start/stop button for couple secs will shut the car off even in D

Look around page 56-58 in the manual.

You should just have to have the electronics on with the brake applied and then you can shift out of P to N.

Yeah, you try to get them to drive like we do in the U.S. too. If you can drive in Bangkok, you can drive anywhere.

To the OP-you may want to call the local dealership or PM several other BKK members. Also PM member "is2000", I know Mark relocated back to the homeland and he took several cars with him, I'm sure he can help you.

PS this wouldn't happen if you got a stick. Jk.

Parking lots are pretty leveled. I remember pushing a few cars aside to make path for our car. The city is small and pretty overpopulated, plus after all..it's a 3rd world nation.

Shut off the engine. With key in and foot off the brake pedal, hit the Start/Stop button to turn on ignition only. Now you can shift to Neutral with engine off.

Go to the dealer I think they can reprogram the car for you. My dad did it to his merc. (this is in Thailand, of course). Should be the same for bmw.
