Post Coded out COMBOX after it failed and was removed

I had a Combox failure (which caused a castrophic, atomic CAN bus failure). Disconnnected it, and car was stable, but had SOS warning. No combox = no bluetooth, no music from flash drive, so I replaced the head unit shortly thereafter... that will have to be another thread.

I actually did the following work about a year ago, but I'm digging up the notes because I want to code something else ( Code out TPMS, another topic for sure). I thought I would post in hopes of helping somebody else.

These are just notes I took that make sense to me ( or did at one time ) and probably will to anyone who has done, or becomes familiar with coding. All kinds of good info on this forum, which I defintely consumed much of and am very grateful for.

I built up a spare laptop with NCSExpert and use it exclusively for my e90. I built it along time ago, mostly to code the car for battery replacement. It took a fair bit of work to make it actually work. I have no notes on that process, so I hope it never dies. It worked well to do the coding described below.

Car is 2011 328i SULEV Sedan without NAV - (US), built in S. Africa.

--------- Start of Notes -------
Thought process: Want to code out the combox.

Got the Vehicle order (VO) from the CAS module:

E90_#0910&LCSW%0354*PH57$1CA$249$255$2S1$2VB$319$4 03$430$431$459$481$488$494$497$4AB$4NA$520$521$534 $544$563$5DS$639$645$663$676$693$697$6AA$6AB$6FL$6 NF$6VC$704$760$818$823$840$845$850$853$876$8TN$925 $992-B090-EWS4+KRAD

2011 Order guide for 328i SULEV (S. Africa) - "PH57" shows the following:

"Standard equpiment"
645 radio control US
663 Radio BMW Professional
676 Hi-Fi Sound system "(SOP:09/10)"
693 Satellite Radio Prep
697 - DVD Area Coding - North America

"premium Package"
639 - BMW Assist w/ Bluetooth

"Value Package"
6FL - iPod and USB Adapter

"Option"
6NF - SmartPhone Integration "(EOP:02/11)"

Note: The order guide makes no mention of "6VC" for the PH57 car, but does have it for other vehicles, stating "639 will add 6VC Combox controller".

Given that my VO has 6VC in it, I'm speculating that a production change occurred to bring PH57 audio in-line with that of M3 sedan (PM93), replacing the standard Telematics Control unit with the "New and improved" combox. But, I didn't buy the car new…it could have been retrofitted by original owner/dealer.

Note: "+KRAD" appears to be a radio swap. CD73 replaced by CD83.

Note: "653" (HD Radio) is in Standard Options but is absent from my VO.

Plucked 6VC, Added +TELD and wrote VO to CAS.

Defaulted KOMBI.

SOS Warning gone.
--------- End Of Notes ----------

That got rid of SOS warning, but I had a brief muting period that would occur several seconds after starting the car, so:

--------- Start of Notes -------
Note: When I plucked "6VC" from VO, "MEDIA" module disappeared from NCSExpert modules, but TCMU showed up, but unable to read it.

Thinking there isn't one and I should pluck 639, 6FL and 6NF from VO as well. Perhaps don't need "+TELD"?

Note: VO has 6AA & 6AB…absent from order guide….maybe keep +TELD? It shows as teleservices related. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=717103

Update: removed +TELD, 6AA, 6AB, 639, 6FL and 6NF from VO and recoded (defaulted) NFRM, CAS, KOMBI, HVAC (can't recall actual name), and FZD

Car is settled…no warnings, no muting…good to go.

Lost all 'user' settings and had to recode for Halos to be DRLs ( which, I had done with carly, because car has halogen headlamps, which defaults to using headlamps for DRLs).

--------- End Of Notes ----------

Hope it helps somebody someday.
