iphone garbled
Yes, I have the same problem with garbled conversations using an iphone 3gs and the hands free on a 2006 e90 330xi. It's getting worse and worse. It used to take several minutes of conversation, now it's only a few seconds until the problem develops. Using the phone without the bluetooth has no problems at all. I went to an apple store and got an new phone which has the same problem. I have an appointment with the dealer in a few days (on the last day of my 4 year warrantee!!!!). I'll report back next week.

tried uninstalling and reinstalling the iPhone?
My wife had exactly this problem with her iPhone 3G and our '08 335i sedan. Problem went away after we completely removed the iPhone from the system and reinstalled it. Never came back.
If you haven't tried this, do so -- good luck! |

And the answer is......
I lose. The iPhone software 3.1.2 is not compatible with the latest version of software for BMW. There is no car update to fix the problem. They guy at the dealer basically said to wait until either Apple or BMW comes out with an update. I just hope it's apple since their updates are free! |

One more thought-- In the two days since I've had the car back, the problem has not occurred. At the dealer they unpaired and repaired the phone to the car. Perhaps that fixed the problem. I also noted that the TTY option was enabled on the phone. I bet that has nothing to do with it, but I'm mentioning it here in case it turns out to be important.

Glad I found this too. I have the same problem.
3Gs with 3.1.1 sounded fine for 30-40+ minute phone calls. Since the 3.1.2 update, I only have a few minutes at most before everything craps out. A full power-down and reboot of the phone MAY buy me 10 minutes at most, but usually sounds garbled more quickly than that. Hopefully today's 3.1.3 update fixes something. I'm on a 2006 E90 with the latest car software as of about a year ago. --gos

Exact same here. No issues at all on my jailbroken iPhone 3Gs 3.0.1.

had the car at the dealer, they verified the problem with another 3.1.2 iphone but do not have a solution - my car has the latest available programming. i have updated my phone to 3.1.3 but the problem is still there. |

When I ran the beta of iOS4 the garble was gone as well.
Then the released version it was still gone! So it was definitely something in the software because I had my 3GS replaced once and it wasnt the phone. I have the iPhone 4 now and no issues with that one. It was just one long annoying year with the garbled phone.

I'm using the first release of iOS 4 and still have the problem intermittently but it's much better than it was before. Still not as great as the early versions of 3. I'm hesitant to update to the new 4.1 in case they break it again (and also because I don't buy this 'we calculated the bars wrong' stuff).
