That paint damage looks very, very bad,and I bet it's not just confined to the two areas shown in the pics, what you can see is shocking!

Yes e60 M5 outside of warranty. BIG mistake!.

However if you want some practical advice speak to DXB as his dad has one. So may be able to fill you in on any pros and cons.

I cant afford to go anywhere near a 5.0 V10 at present - I just got engaged !

I just hadnt realised that low mileage examples had gotten that cheap, a respray or wrap would solve the paint issues and the rest of the car looks spot on..

Keep thinking about an Evolve E-Tronic exhaust on an E60 M5

Well congratulations!

And yes they really are performance bargains. I expect £600 quid maybe for the bonnet, maybe more for the roof? Then 1k on a mondial warranty. It would cost you a few k to change from your car.

You've got a v nice spec on yours, probably quite ballistic, just cure the temptation by sending it to birds for the LSD. Think of the money you will save doing that instead of parting on the m5

I could spend circa £5k getting mine to where I want it - But it still wont have that noise!!!

Luckily I cant afford to do it and definitely couldn't run it 20,000 miles per year!!

Don't think it's THAT cheap to be honest. You can get one that doesn't need painting and with a warranty for not much more than that now tbh.

Am seriously tempted by one for the family wagon, just keep getting put off by horror stories of big bills and low teens fuel consumption, I don't do many miles a year but even then not sure if it's worth putting up with that kind of MPG.

I looked at a touring but the mpg also put me off - quoted as 12mpg urban, thinking 8?!

Noise would be lovely though!

If you are doing short journeys could you live with the gearbox around town. Have a drive first.

If you live on A / B roads its probably a different story. I only do 4-5k per year now but most journeys are quite long.

At such low mileage poor MPG you are talking about another £5-£10 a month, it's nothing.

I've tried the SMG and I actually like it tbh and not sure where all the hate comes from for that box. OK it's not as smooth as a modern DCT\Auto but I actually prefer the more mechanical feel of that box and when you are going for it, it's superb.

I only do about 8-10k miles a year so I suppose you are right, it's only going to cost a few hundred quid more a year fuel. The annoying thing though is if you go on longer journeys for weekend trips away, apparently you spend more time in the petrol station then on the road which could get annoying.

Quite special though, last of a breed.

You'd be able to tell your grandkids about it......

When the SMG blows up then do a manual conversion, that's what they do with M3 SMGs. The US got manual E60 M5s so the bits are about.

NB the US manual M5s use the 335i manual box IIRC.
