Well this happened

Well I decided to go for a nice mountain drive a couple days ago, when a heavy snow came out of nowhere. I was probably going a little too fast around this turn, when I hit some ice and slush and lost the back end. Drifted around and a nice gentleman's pickup truck stopped me. Luckily, there was no damage to his car. He was extremely helpful and understanding, which helped lift my spirits a little.

Still pretty bummed about it, but these things happen I guess. Hopefully getting it fixed next week, but I don't really have a clue what it will cost. Hopefully it's just a fender replacement. I'm pretty sure that dripping rust looking stuff was already there. No lights on the dash and it drives fine. If anyone has any opinions or estimates on the damage, please let me know. I have duct tape over it now haha... not very good looking.

Anyways, happy holidays, gents.

Pics of taped fender!

Did the fender not hit the hood also? And looks like the front bumper needs repainted as well. I'd say about 12-1500 for new fender, paint, and bumper.

No the hood is fine, thankfully. I'm hoping the scuffs on the bumper will just buff out. They're pretty minor.

I really hope it doesn't cost that much! I was hoping to just pay out of pocket to keep the insurance out of it, but if it's that much I won't have much of a choice

If the bumper doesn't need fixed, that will help out dramatically.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I wish I could do M3 fenders, but I don't really feel like spending all that money with the holidays coming up. Plus I'm not too sure how much longer I'm going to be keeping this car.

well I'd like to stick with BMW, but idk really. I've wanted an e92 m3 for a while (still don't know why I didn't order a 2013 when I had the chance). I'm also reluctantly considering an m4, but if I went that way, I'd wait for LCI.

If I left, I'd try for a 911 or maybe even a Range Rover

What about you?

what a hassle, the worst part is getting the paint to blend in.

I feel you bro. Had the kind of accident but I was parked and a SUV backed up into me.

yes, fender needs to be replaced, painted and color patches with the door, hood, bumper. don't worry about the yellow drips (I believe its sealer or something), this is how it comes from the factory.

cost wise, you're looking at ~1800 depending on where you take it. I took it to a very reputable paint shop, plus I'm located in Canada so everything is automatically more expensive.

hope this helps. Good luck.

thanks so much for the reply. it helps a lot.

I'm really hoping it doesn't cost that much, though! I was looking at some fenders online and found some for a couple hundred bucks. it's also only a year and a half old, so I'm hoping the paint blending won't be too difficult.

I figure if I buy the fender and bring it somewhere it will be much cheaper.

thanks again

fender and paint, shouldnt need a blend, if you have a really good body shop! Fender around $400, paint around $300.

Wow that thing broke apart like a Saturn. I will not say the repair will be cheap but you should take joy that it could have been much worse

Plus I second the duct tape photo.

That's really a bummer! Good luck with the repair.

P.S. The rust stuff is glue from assembly. More glue + fewer bolts = less weight
