So much for cold soaks and that heat Rez button...

My 3 sat in an lot at the train station all week - Monday AM to Friday PM and had a nice long cold soak. Started up instantly Friday evening despite some pretty cold days (temps below -20C the night before). No worries

Then today I sat in line for the car wash and ran the reserve heat for nearly half hour waiting in line. The battery light went off. I guess I've discovered the limits of my battery's tolerance. So much for not sitting and idling

Mine starts blowing cold air within 5 minutes, I find the feature useless. Was yours still blowing warm air after 30 mins? Climate control fans take A LOT of power.

I was restarting the car every 5 minutes and moving forward 1 car length. It was -15 out yesterday so definitely an abuse of a battery. It was warm enough for the first while. Once the battery warning flashed at me I idled and watch my mileage counter drop minute by minute. Now it looks tolerably like those I expect anyone who does a daily commute would see - 14 l/100km.

I have never actually sat in the car with the REST feature on so I don't know how long the heat actually blows for. I use it in 15 - 20 min intervals while running quick errands and it's been fine. Mind you I don't think the car will get that cold in such a short interval either.

I've been using it one fairly regularly - picking up #1 daughter each week from the stables. It runs about 15 minutes then the car shuts everything down, stereo included - a built in time out. This is the first real winter weather (and my first winter with the car) so I will see how toasty it can keep me in an Ottawa winter.

The REST button only works as long as your engine is giving off residual heat. If its very, very cold the engine will cool down faster = less residual heat to put into the cabin. I've found that once the engine is up to temperature it will leave the car very warm for 15-20 mins.

It was -30 in Calgary over a weekend when I was in Vegas.

Car hated it. Everything was reset. CA didn't work. Heater didn't work except on Front defrost. Rear defrost didn't work even when the light was on.

The battery or the alternator in the 335 is too small!

Every time I run REST, everything resets.

This is how my residual heat works as well. I find it useful.

The battery is supposed to provide close to 700 A at 0 F - that is a fair cold weather performance. Physical size is quite impressive compared to other cars.
