Boost leaks
Where does the boost leak mainly on the 335i when upping the boost?
I will replace the stock elbow which I have heard can cause boost leaks. I have also heard of some that say they noticed a change in performance when switching to an aftermarket forge DV. Any thoughts? I am getting a boost leak somewhere and the engine is cutting out timing and causing a cel and limp mode. |

You're more likely to get leaks if you replace any of the piping and/or components between the turbos and throttle body. Common points of leakage: 1. OEM chargepipe/DV connection 2. Intercooler piping (pre/post intercooler) 3. Chargepipe to TB connection 4. Any silicone coupler and clamp combo |

Edit: Just got back from testing and I will throw a code only when smashing the throttle. If I ease on the throttle I can run up through the gears shifting at redline and everything seems ok. But when I am in 3rd gear at 60mph and I smash the throttle I get the CEL and limp mode or when I floor it taking off I will get the light as well. But easing on the throttle the car doesn't seem to mind is is pretty fast.
So I went and had it scanned at the scanner said cylinder 6 misfire. What I don't understand is I will NOT get this code with stock boost levels only when I activate the tune. Any thoughts? Last edited by Htown09; 02-03-2010 at 01:04 PM.. |

I'm getting similiar except no cel. if i mash it starts to pull then it revs but theres no more pull then it starts to pull again frustrating no codes though
If i start more even and dont put the throttle to the ground it will pull even though the gears..(feels like timing is being pulled when it get to higher psi) I was thinking the Helix intercooler and the silicon conection it kind of twisted on install is this a symptom anyone else has had... I also think the dps arent all that tight but that wouldnt matter right...if they have a leak it will just give more power.. or would the sensors pull timing? any thoughts are very welcome. |

boost leak was connection to intercooler.
Got under the car today and found my problem ..I could see the overspray coming from the connection to the passenger side intercooler...tighten it and all the connections and is running like new...Hope yours is as easy to find as mine was.

If a cylinder misfires, it could be the following:
-injector -plug -coil I'd start with the least expensive of the three to diagnose the problem, that being the coils or plugs. Try switching coil #6 with #1 and see if the problem follows. If it does, then it might be the coil, if it doesn't then do the same process with the spark plugs. If the problem still persists, then it might be the injector?

Good post. So you suggest to swap JUST the coil first from #6 to #1? Then I can rescan and if it moves to #1 then just replace the coil. Maybe I will swap both coil and sparkplug from 6 to 1 and then re-scan. If it moves replace both and try again. That sounds like the easiest plan. If it doesnt work I will change out the spark plugs and if that doesn't work I will take it to the stealership. |

I don't like the couplers I have with my helix - specifically the one on the passenger side. The intercooler pulls on it a little causing it to sort of 'crinkle.' I'm wondering under boost if it almost 'crinkles' closed or opens back up. ~eh. |
