SoCal: Malibu Canyon Runs
Hey Guys,
Does anybody else here like to hit the canyons on the weekends? It would be nice to see some 335s up there! I'm up there on Sunday's whenever I don't have to work. I usually roll with some good buddies in STIs, Evos, S2Ks, etc... but no 335s! (except mine now). If you don't know, the Malibu canyons have some of the best driving roads on the planet. Twisty, technical, and well maintained, the weekends see most traffic in the form of motorcycles and sports cars. The views are amazing! Always cool cars and bikes out too! There are some police around, but I don't go up there to speed - just to enjoy the cruise. The speed limit is high enough to still have a lot of fun without breaking any laws. We usually meet at the 76 station at PCH and Sunset Blvd. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...maplink2&name= It's about a 3 hour route with a stop at Neptunes Net (of F&F fame) for lunch. Great food! Hope to see some of you out there. Maybe if there are enough of us, we can do a 335 canyon cruise. - Dan |

I just went up there today, from 101 to PCH going on Mulholland. All black cars and bike: 335 coupe, Z3, Audi A3, and a Yamaha R6. It's hard not to speed there, especially through the twisty turns. Probably going to turnbull cyn in Hacienda Heights next week.

Hello Dan,
I'll see you at your shop on the 10th Wow I used to do the Malibu Canyons about 10-12 years ago. There were times where I would go by myself early in the mornings on the Westlake/Mulholland/Yerba Buena route and not see a single vehicle. Kinda sketchy sometimes as there were various places where sand would settle on the road and once I ran over a small boulder that was in the road around a blind turn. I can only imagine that it's really crowded now and turns into more of a "cruise" than a spirited jaunt like the old days. I'd be interested in knowing. Regarless, I'd be up for meeting perhaps once to relive the old days.

^No need to scare people away. Accidents can happen on the freeway or down the street from your home. As long as you drive within your limits then everything should be fine. I've gone on a ton of group drives and there's never any problems. I'd much rather go on a run/cruise than to a parking lot meet which are such a bore.

You can still have "spirited jaunts" depending on the group. It's true though that the larger groups will tend to turn into cruises, but even then the basic rule of thumb is faster people up front and people who just wish to cruise near the back.

I love driving in the Malibu Canyons! I always try to go there at least once a week, though there's a lot of CHP pretense. The best part is Mulholland park, except when you're stuck behind the SLOW A$$ vans  . One thing I noticed was that while sports bikes blow past me on the straights, I'm much faster on the curves then they are. I love this car!
