haha...it's true that doctors/ dentists make good income..but there's also a lot of occupations out there that pay just as well. I can't deny the fact that medical profession is more stable. We don't have to worry about being laid off. In fact, when the economy is not doing well, doctors do better. For the same amount of money, we can buy so much more. Not too sure about dentist though. Sagging economy can make people delay seeing their dentists to save some coins...I know b/c my wife is a dentist.

Remember though, doctors sacrifice a lot, I mean a lot, of their time studying and staying up late to service the public. Hence, we get remunerated well. FYI, salary does vary among specialty. For instance, Radiologist annual salary starts at 600K and up per annum. I know one working in Sarnia makes 900k. So there you go

An M3 does not cost $2500/mo to own. They can be leased with almost nothing down for ~$1000, insurance might be $400/mo for a young driver with a decent history.

As for HPFP, I've dealt with a lot of N54 owners. I'd say ~1% have HPFP issues in my experience.

A bare bone M3 sedan with no option costs $1500/mo for 4 years with no down payment. Most demo ones have lots of options included, hitting around $1600/mo even with dealer discount.

I might have the record for least kms on the stock pump: 09 with only 4900kms. Had HPFP replaced yesterday.

The service tech said the new one that went in was an updated design...

I put 8000 km's in 6 months and I have no issues YET.

And I was quoted around $1100/month with tax in for 48 months with $20,000 down for an almost full loaded E92 M3 back in March when I got my car.

Mine was just replaced, usual symptoms. It is an '08 with about 33k on it. Interestingly, BT only showed 2 codes, Service invoice showed 3 codes.

HPFP is hit or miss, and honestly it's not the worst thing in the world. The fact you know about it only means you won't be shocked when / if it happens to you. It only seems like a REALLY REALLY bad thing because everyone in the forum talks about it. However, consider that only a small portion of BMW owners actually use the forum.

Cost to Fun ratio is ridiculous, I'd say a better ratio than the cost to purchase a M3. If you're technically on a budget, then 335i nothing better bang for your $$$.

Get the 335i, supe it up, you'll smack some M3s around with the right tune and have fun doing it.

I don't know how a relative "kid" still in school figures he can afford a new M3 right out of school. Are you going to live in your parents' basement rent free?

Don't have to be any of that to get a M3 or 335i. I bought my 335i within 2 months of my graduation last year and I am a EIT myself. All you got to do is to walk out of school loan free and the world is your oyster

If one is looking at a CPO'd 335, how can they tell from the service records if they've had a history of HPFP failure? And does that mean anything in terms of potential for future failures? Thanks.

If you go CPO you get coverage for 6 years from original in service date. eg. I'm covered until Apr-2014. I'd be curious whether whether BMW Canada has a hidden warranty on the HPFP since there IS an extended warranty in the US.

Haven't had any issues with my car so far but I've had it barely 6 months and it's got low mileage.

P.S. Needless to say there are many folks who rely on income sources other than their paycheck. Why do you try to standardize car affordability based on your own financial situation. We are all different, and trust me it's good that way.
