2011 328i rear speakers not working
Hello!
I have a 2011 328i with the base stereo system (no iDrive or HK). From what I've read online, the car has a total of 6 speakers (2 on the front doors, 2 under each front seat, and 2 on the rear deck). Everything works 100% ok, radio works, AUX port works, and USB port works. My only problem is that the 2 speakers in the rear deck behind the head rests do not work at all. I have tested it using the "fader", when it's set to the rear speakers, there is no sound at all. The front door speakers work fine. Can anyone help me out with this? Is there a speaker fuse that blown? I've checked the fuse diagram and it does not look like there is any speaker fuse on there. Also, this base model speaker system does not have an amplifier. |

We are dealing with two speakers the rear channels and the wiring in between
and maybe the combox. So to test the speakers is not a hard task take them out measure for resistance and run a signal through them . Sounds like the rear two channels your Head Unit may be dead though. Since the alarms are run through the rear speakers on some years if you have pdc something may be wrong with that. The head unit has a fuse but there are no fuses for the speakers . If the head unit fuse was out you wouldn't have any Radio at all. Did you just buy this car if you did maybe someone else has already modified it? Last edited by ctuna; 06-17-2017 at 04:56 PM.. |

ctuna Thanks for the reply. The previous owner bought the car as a CPO, it was a female college age driver. I highly doubt she fiddled around with the sound system wiring.
How exactly can I test the rear speaker resistance? Sorry, I do not know much about sound systems or electrical work in general. Any help is appreciated. |

Thanks ctuna ! I took off the rear speakers and discovered that the disc magnet had become detached from the speaker assembly. Speakers obviously will not work without the magnet.
I hot glued the magnet back on and the rear speakers work great now. |

sparker01 I'm really not the guy to ask for car audio related stuff or any car electronics, I'm clueless in those areas lol. I fixed my speaker issue by replacing my 2 rear deck speakers with brand new speakers from Crutchfield, JBL speakers for $45 shipped. The gluing the magnet back on worked for a week then fell off again.
For your case, the noise could be something else. I would pop off the covers and visually inspect the speaker and wiring. Good luck.

Radio or Idrive is never really off because its used for
things like seat belt alarms , and other attention or warning signals. If you have a Logic 7 system usually the amp goes bad due to getting wet. Happens in the Hi Fi system to. If you have the base system there is just the Head Unit the wiring and the speakers. Make sure you have a strong battery before trying to diagnose this stuff as the IBS system can turn stuff off if the battery is low. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1461912 If you lock the car it should turn the sound off in 1 to 2 minutes as it puts it in sleep mode. |
