HELP! What Car?!

Porscha! has a new job with this new job comes a circa £400 pcm after tax allowance to buy a car.

I will be doing around 35,000 miles per year.

The company have two stipulations - 1. The car must be fed on the devils fuel - diesel 2. The car must be a maximum of three years old at any one given time

My requirements are as follows - 1. The car must be RWD 2. The car must look nice lol

I'm thinking new would be the best option as I won't have to keep swaping all the time.

The only other thing is the car must have a rather large boot to fit different equipment and things in, though a good boot is a requirement I don't need four seats or doors.

My shortlist is as follows:
BMW 123d Coupe (doubt stuff will fit)
BMW 320d Coupe (think stuff will fit - actually rather impressed with car)
BMW 520d Saloon (the sensible choice as things will definately fit and would be a nice motorway car - slow though!)
Mercedes C Class Saloon (know nothing about it but imagine it would be a good load carrier!)

Really have I any other options, the 1er is ruled out due to size really I think I will need something 5 series size!

520d - slow? What's slow about 0-60 in 8.1 and a top speed of 144?

The 5 series is massive. You really are aware of it's bulk on UK roads and as a result it's not as entertaining to drive as the 3.

Current 320d is as big inside as the old 5 series.

If you can get a second hand car I would try for a 330d or maybe even a late model 330cd (old shape coupe) and pocket the change.

How strictly does the company enforce the car rules? Most don't do so very hard. Whatever car you would use for work, use it - and take your time picking another one at all.

No one will expect instant action from the newcomer and you can use it to your advantage by not bothering about doing anything until you decide you have to.

In the meantime we can enjoy nattering about your choices.

Thanks for the advice, no 0-60 in 8.1 ain't that bad, for an entry diesel on a car that big, didn't realise they were that quick. The new E60 5 Series is most certainly bigger than the E39!

At the same time the 5 is a big barge type car, not very Porscha! LOL

I can get a second hand car, yes but at any one given time the car must be less that three years old, so if I buy a two year old car I will have to swap it in one year, though that doesn't bother me, I just want a car to run and not bother about, I love changing my own cars but won't get any excitment changing a diesel to another diesel LOL!

Didn't realise you could fold the seats on the new E92, I know you could on my E46 Coupe though.

Would ideally like a white car and know white looks lovely on the E92.

If only bloody Diesel wasn't a requirement

Anyone got any opinions good or bad on the Mercedes? I do rather like the new front end of it and think white would rather suit it!

Can't imagine them being too bothered to start with, though the chances of me fitting anything in my car is about zero LOL.

Could always use my mums E39 540i though, and hope fuel prices come down a bit hehe infact just to be driving a nice little V8 everyday will compensate for me

yeah

i would go for the 123d coupe, its supposed to be an amazing twin turbo engine, i was reading a review in perfromance car a few weeks ago and it quite literally trounced the competition in every aspect ( apart from price of course ) if you can get your stuff in go for that ... its more fun anyway !

if they did a 135d coupe i would be getting that straight away !!
slightly off topic , but wouldnt a z4 coupe with the 3.5d engine be fun

i read in some magazine or other the typical rep / mondeo man has evolved into the 3 series saloon man ( usually the 3.20d man to be precise )

must be classy reps nowadays

Agree with Chris - 123d Coupe if your stuff will fit. If not E92 320d. Both good cars.

What's the new job then Porscha?

Nice to be able to choose but tbh £400 pcm is not a great deal to fund a car that will do 35k pa?

Are you buying or leasing Porscha?

Agreed.
Any mileage allowance coupled to the £400 quid a month?
I would imagine there would be.

40p a mile for the first 10,000 mls + 25p for the next 25,000 mls gives you another £10K approx to play with.

OK you have to buy the car, insure it, tax it, take the depreciation hit + fuel it, but it helps.

Yes it's a reps job I'm doing, looking after the North area promoting and training Salon Software!

Will be getting 40p per mile for first 10K and 25p thereafter as well as the £400 pcm allowance.

I will probably lease the car.

I don't think the 1er will be big enough shame as I really like that car, the 3er is in first place so long as things fit, the 5er is if the stuff don't fit and I'm still considering the C class only with the sport kit though, I think it's rather nice and you don't see that many, well not as many as the 3 series LOL!

Never drien a Mercedes so will probably have to go and make my mind up about it.

Decided that a built in SatNav would be a useful option and bluetooth for phone, good god I'm going all modern - HELP lol!

LOL! Don't need as much space as a van hehe

A touring would be the sensible choice, can't stretch to an Alpina D3 though lol, though I do prefer cars with a boot, I like the lines of a coupe or saloon more!

If the Alfa Romeo 159 drove the right wheels I'd already have chosen my car!

Really I need to see what these boards will fit in, I could be thinking they are bigger than what they actually are, if so I really like the idea of the 1 series coupe, or a 3 series coupe if I need a little more roon

They will only be in the car for shows and not at any other time, other things I will need to carry will fit in the E30 or the MX without any trouble so no problem in any of the cars listed!

I do really like the E92 Coupe, though it is rather expensive and from what I've seen both the Mercedes and the 5 series are cheaper the E90 saloon is also cheaper, not forgeting it's a work car so cheap = good I don't want to be spending money if I can help it!!

My main problem is the car must be RWD, there aren't many new RWD diesels out there really!
