I just found DS mode yesterday and wow what a difference..At first I was like damn XI why does it feel like this, why? I guess everyones else feels the lack of HUMF on 1st gear in regular drive, but in DS mode its a different car!!! car currently has 450 miles cant wait till its all broken in..

Interesting...I was feeling that the car was a little sluggish in 1st gear into 2nd. Maybe I just need to put it in DS mode....hmmm. Let me go have some fun! I'll if it works because, to tell you the truth, I hate the amount of time it takes to get out of 1st gear and into 2nd coming off a red light. I expect quick shifts! And I don't expect to look silly as my car jerks into 2nd gear! I expect my car to go smoothly as possible from 1st all the way into 6th gear!

The 335 step starts in 2nd gear in auto.

Yeah, its the same with the other model transmissions. Its like using only 5 gears when you have 6 to use. I try to go SMG on streets, when I remember. But sometimes after work when I'm tired...it's nice to go full auto...but DS of course.

I have found this to be the case. Higher fuel consumption, faster shifting and greater throttle response - as well as holding lower gears longer and prefering 5th to 6th gear on the highway. I didn't realize there was any debate on this...has always been rather obvious to me.

Yes driving in D starrts you off at 2nd from a stop v. DS starts you in gear 1.

You know what I think?

I think in D mode, the car starts off 2nd gear.
If you put it in Manual mode and select 2nd gear from a stop at a light, it feels the same way as D.

Selecting DS engages 1st gear from a stop and tops out at 5th gear with increased shift points across the board.

The step on the 335 is much faster. 100ms shifts.

The 335 uses the 6HP18TU (Technically Updated) transmission by ZF. The 328 etc. use the GM6, a GM sourced 6 speed transmission.

The ZFTU provides 40% less lag time to initiate a shift and 50% less time to complete a shift then the previous models. Not to mention that paddle shifters are the Bomb.

I just bought it 3 weeks ago...it was the last of the 06's I scored a deal that i couldnt pass up....couldnt afford the 335 and wanted more humf & standard goodies than the 328...so i got stuck with the 330...
