Cobb plus AFE Dual stage 2 intakes

A coworker with a wrx was informing me that a COBB + intake on his car led to a lot of issues and advised I should return to the stock airbox. I was wondering if that was the case for a 335i? I tried to search but could not find anything.

If not, I'm guessing I should run the Stage1 aggressive with the intakes installed when it arrives in the mail?

different platforms. wrx is more sensitive to tuning/upgrades than the n54. there are a ton of wrx/sti guys who have had to replace their short blocks.

no issues on the n54 for a basic tune + intake.

You dont need an intake for stage 1.

You can not compare apples to oranges. The N54 takes aftermarket intakes just fine.

Completely different platform. I'm running COBB s2+ and have an intake as are a looot of people.

At stage 1, you don't really need an intake though, as enrita already stated

aFe DCI is what Cobb actually runs on their car, so it really should not cause problems on your car. If you have problems, it's not the aFe DCI

It's what I currently have, no other mods yet (in the mail)... no issues as others have said. You can run Stage1 with/without it no problem.

I'd ignore your coworker's advice as he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about

Subaru's utilize a MAF sensor. Changing the size, shape/putting a bend in the wrong spot can cause problems with thier MAF sensors. Anytime you swap intakes on a Subaru, you should definately pay attention to AFR trims and make the appropriate adjustments to the MAF table.

Exactly. You need to compensate for that either with a tune or your engine management. Bad advice even for him, you can run a cold air intake on the Subaru WRX/STi. Never had an issue.

Can't wait for mine. AFE stage 2 DCI and AE exhaust on the way!

You'll be okay running the aFe intake with the Cobb tune. It will not cause any issues!

Save your money on the intake and put it towards a more usefull mod. Tires, suspension, lsd, downpipes, meth, fmic are all better options IMO.

I'm not convinced we even "need" an intake for Stage 2.

I currently have an AFE Stage 2 Sealed intake installed, replacing the stock airbox and am thinking of fitting the stock box back on, not only for aesthetics, but that the OEM paper filter does a far better job of filtering fine particulate that pass through oiled cotton-gauze filters pass.

For the longevity of my car, extended oil change cycles and the dry, hot, dusty Texas summer, I feel the stock paper filter is best, even if leaves a few HP on the table.
