Upgrade Idrive?

I just got an 07 335i and I keep hearing people talk about how the newer Idrive is so much better than than older one... is there anyway to update mine? I have searched around but keep confusing myself about the DVD based navigation and all that stuff... I was just wondering if there is a way to update my system (not just the new maps, etc)....

Also, mine seems rather slow... especially when I first get in the car... I'll hit a button and it take at least 5 seconds to load the screen, etc.

Please let me know... thanks!

Sorry, you'll have to live with that system.

What do you mean by harder to use? I mean, I don't find it too bad, I like it a lot... but, I do hear a lot of ppl saying how much better the newer one is... why is that?

Wrong. You can upgrade, it will just cost you. The whole 44 page ordeal is like 3 threads down from this one at the moment, search for Next Gen Retrofit or just follow the link. Go to the last page if you don't want to read the whole saga.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159604

Probably end up being $2.5-3k, but if it's worth it to you it can be done. Only thing missing right now is voice control from what I read.

Last time I checked, the guy doing it could not get the system correctly coded to the car. Plus, with no voice control, I wouldn't do it.

Maybe its different for the 335 but I remember members doing this either under warranty or for like $200 I thought. Not for the Nav DVD and not the new I-drive control unit, but the firmware I was pretty sure was what they were talking about, sounds like what you're talking about. I just called the dealer today and one of the things I asked them to do was this update, I go in on Wednesday so we'll see.

^^^ Yeah I think that's what costs a few grand, not the update from the dealer. That does look damn good though.

Its something you just have to try for yourself to understand. Everything from the graphics, colors, menu layouts is worlds better on the new one. I couldn't believe how different they were until I saw it on my buddies car.

That would just work some of the bugs out of the system. There's nothing really "new" when you have an update done. If you want an update and the car is still under warranty, find a reason why the iDrive needs an update (e.g. the gong won't go off after start up, or radio button no longer functions on occasion, etc..).

Hmm well I told them its really slow and clunky, but don't have much else to work with because other than that, its alright.
