DVD Based Navigation for MY 2010 and below

Is the DVD based Navigation useful or it is a crap and simply forget it and just get myself an aftermarket ones like Garmin etc etc. thanks

MY 2009 and 2010 don't use DVD based nav...its hard drive based. It is useful...maybe not as good as garmin, but a lot better than the first gen idrive/nav. MY 2008 and earlier use the dvd based.

Plus it's more than just navi. Car settings are easier to change and monitor, managing your audio is 100 times better with the larger screen just to name a few.

As for the navi it does the job plus the integration into the vehicle is hands down better than any garmin.

I have had loaners without idrive and can't stand it.

+1 This is my first car with Nav/i-Drive. It is now officially a must have for me. I drive a lot and the Nav is very easy to use. Cool features that save a lot of time are the voice commands. You can speak the destination address on the fly and dial phone number by contact etc.

I love mine it works very well includes phone numbers to business's finds things near by banks, restaurants etc good job BMW
