325i has Long crank, hard start
First start of the day my 06 325i has a long crank about 3 seconds and it has a very pronounced start (louder than normal). What could this be an indication of? I've read about the hpfp, but are the e90's (325i) affected by this problem?
Thanks in advance. |

IM sorry to say this but it's probably your starter going out. This happend to me and I ignored it for to long and boom one day my car wouldn't start . I had it diagnosed at the dealership but fix it my self. Have it checked right away before you receive an un expected surprise like me. If it is the starter let me know and I can giude you through the repair. It's not hard. If your out of warrenty that is. If you have warrenty i don't see why the dealership won't fix it. The fuel pump going bad is not a common problem in the 325i unlike the 335i.

Thanks a lot for the info and offering to help, I am still under warranty until sept.
I wonder if the dealer would agree there is a problem as long as the car is still starting? I'll let you know and thanks again! |

Your situations sounds just like mine. I never had any kind of check engine or service engine light come up. The car just would not start one day. It had the same symptoms your car is having even though it took a few months for the stater to completly go out. It will be interesting to hear what the dealership tells you.

I have had this issue as well, but only when it is extremely cold. This is something that I will have to keep an eye on before my ex warranty goes. GL at the dealership.

I also have this problem when it gets really cold (-25 C). And after driving for a couple of minutes the engine fail lamp turns on and all the driving aids are out. And the cars topspeed gets lowered to 60 km/h. This has hapened 2 times, but when the outside temprature gets warmer the car goes like normal again.
I have let my dealer take a look at the car, but they didn't find any faults. Anyone knows what the problem could be?

e90 hard start!
Quote:
Hey everyone, another newb here, looking for some desperate help.. My e90 325i is experiencing the rough start syndrome. At first I thought it was my battery so i had bmw replace the battery and even upgraded to the high cranking amps (720) and they also registered the battery.. Now the car is starting even harder :S.. i dont know what to do and I hope that the fix isnt pricey.. If it is the starter, does it have to be replaced or can it be repaired? In either situation, how costly is the procedure? thanks in advance guys, your words of wisdom are appreciated =) |

The dealer will charge you between $800-$950 for a starter. The part alone is like $400 if you do it your self. Good luck! mine went out while under warranty.

Tischer sells the starter P/N 12417526236 for $63.91 including a $50 core charge, so the price w/o the core is $113.91.
