not sure, but my understanding is that z2 is for light colors and z5 is for darker ones.

Well, sort of.

Z5pro has fillers, it will fill light swirls. Z2pro is optically clear, it has no filling ability. In general most people agree Z5pro looks nicer on darker cars because it is not optically clear and adds a bit more depth than Z2pro; whereas Z2pro is more "wet" so it tends to look better on lighter colors.

So Z5pro will help with swirls, but only from a filling aspect.

Zaino does have a light polish - Z-PC.

Thanks for the clarification...

So, in essence, having and using both is a bit of overkill? I'm guessing that the Z5 would be the best for my JB, based on what you said above....

Some guys do Z5 for filling, the Z2 for the optically clear look. On JB I would personally just use z5pro, but that's just me.

What's the difference between Z5/Z2 and Z-CS? Aren't they all sealants? Do they serve different purposes?

I'm trying to compare this thread with the massive "Detailing 101" thread and it's a little overwhelming for a newb car cleaner like me.

If, like Picus recommended, I wash, dry, Z-CS and maybe clay...am I good to go for all intents and purposes? Are there additional steps I need to keep it looking good without spending insane amount of time?

I'm reading threads of people spending 9-11 hrs doing the full Zaino detailing...I get like 24 hrs of leisure time a week...between sleeping, getting my life in order and driving my bimmer...who has that kind of time!?

I can spend maybe like 2-3 hrs. but that's about it.

Z2 is optically clear, it's a buff on, haze, buff off product. Durability is ~6 months.

Z5pro has some fillers (not optically clear), it applies the same wasy as Z2pro and has similar durability. It tends to look "deeper" than Z2pro, whereas Z2pro looks "wetter".

CS is a different animal all together. It's still a sealant, but the application method is very different. You spray it on, spread it, and then walk away. Look is sort of an in between Z2pro/Z5pro, durability is similar (according to all reports).

Between AJT, Optimum Car Wax, CS, Duragloss Aquawax, etc.. you can wash & wax a car properly in well under 2 hours. It's the "properly" part that's a little tricky the first time. Print out Davids "washing how-to" and follow it to the letter.

Hahaha, have to be a smartass. Car care for the lazy? Take it to a prof detailer every 4-5mo.

Thanks as always for your help picus! MUCH appreciated!

As for a pro...I'd take it to picus if he was in Los Angeles...but he's not.

Anyone know a high quality detailer in the LA area?
