135i Convertible: Morel/SWS vs. Jenhert
I've got a 135i Convertible with the base 6-speaker stereo. I don't think I'll ever add a trunk sub.
I'm planning on using the following regardless of which speakers I chose:
Currently I'm evaluating the following speakers: 1) Morel Virtus 402 for front speakers, Earthquake SWS-8xi for underseats 2) Jenhert flatline system (tweeter/mid/underseat) They're both within about $100 of each other, so I want to know what the experts think of this particular comparison. While I want it to sound nice, I think these combos are what I want to spend on speakers. Thanks. |

I am by no means an expert, but I can chime in a with some wisdom i've picked up from this site.
In general, Morel tweeter/mids are very well regarded for the fronts. There isn't a whole lot written about Jehnert tweeter/mid combo. For the underseats, the Jehnerts are best paired with an actual subwoofer so they can be used as mid-bass drivers. The SWS-8xi would be best if you weren't planning on doing a trunk mounted woofer. A couple people say that the SWS-8xi sound better than the Jehnert's - I can't confirmed either way. |

If you are not a bass head
If you are not a bass head the Jehnerts provide a really accurate
non boomy bass. I have a Morel Jehnert combo and its a little bass heavy when you consider a balanced system. Can't comment on the Jehnert doors because I haven't heard them, I only know the Guru's here recommend the Morels over them if they fit. (won't fit on the coupe some have said) Bass is almost non existent in the Hi Fi system. Last edited by ctuna; 09-03-2013 at 10:48 AM.. |

Rock (Papa Roach, Rise Against), alt-rock (The Smiths), & the poppier side of alt-rock (Passion Pit, the Neighbourhood, Bloc Party).
I'd like to do the Morels with Jenhert woofers, but then I'm over $1K just on speakers - a little over my budget. Edit, I also drive with the top down most of the time. If it's not raining and between 40* and 90*, I'm going topless. |

90 percent of what I like is from between 1966 and 1979

Or from Bands that were popular in that era. Classic or Dinosaur Rock I guess. Mixed with some jazz and blues for the other 10% and a few of the guys that still have the early era sound. No Hip Hop or Rap or heavy bass oriented stuff pretty much. |

Well my votes goes to sws-8 as you do not have sub in your sound system. Jehnerts may be good (I still think they are not) but you need to bandpass them 80-200hz. Under 80hz they are useless. So with them you'll be missing lower frequencies. HTH.

I still haven't purchased my front stage, but according to the master list (kaigoss), the Morel's aren't going to fit in an E88 with their 50mm mounting depth. Is the harshness of the Focals going to be that big of a difference?

That's 170 € for the pair? 130 € less expensive than the Jenherts XE200 I could find on ebay (300 € + shipping).
Did anyone compare them to the XE200 sound wise? |

I have updated the speakers list with more 8" options.

I'm going to keep an eye out for this thread and open my very own. In the same boat as you listen mostly to rock and have base stereo on an E90. Want to keep budget under $1,200 using JL Audio XD600/6, JL Cleansweep & Technic's harness. Are any of the other 8" speakers easily available in the US as the SWS are, that can be found on amazon. What is the price range for the gladen? Keeping the whole speaker combo under $600 would be ideal.
