Official 335i aftermarket products thread!!

Ok, you all heard this!

I have talked to Custom Performance Engineering (www.cp-e.com),

They are comming out with Intake kit, BOV kit (HKS), Downpipe, Exhaust, and ECU tunning pretty soon. They waited to get their bender in ($100,000.00 ), and now its on its way!!

Possibly before meet at Passport BMW (Oct.22nd), I will have prototype intake and BOV kit installed.

But, I know they are pretty good fabrication good looking pipes and flange for cars, so it would look alot cleaner and prettier when the final version comes out. Also, they will have their own ECU piggyback that would have fully tuned for each modification we add on our cars, and perfect dyno provened power will follow.

Check out the website for their previous job on Mazdaspeed6 and other vehicles.

so, cheer!

I worry about the effects of an aftermarket BOV on this car. There IS, afterall, a reason BMW didn't put a tradition BOV on this car.

But hey, we'll see what happens.

thats true, im guessing no gains. but whats worst is that since its not being recirculated back in there should be more lag with a BOV. w/e

Actually BOVs reduce lag not introduce it.

No car manufacturer puts a blow-off value on stock cars... they put by-pass valves on... not every car owner wants to hear "psssshhh" like a little ricer everytime they shift or let off the throttle under moderate to heavy load...

okok....

I got some words back from CP-E,

They are going to have Exhaust and BOV kit available soon, and going to show it off at the Passport BMW meet on Oct. 22nd.

Also, we are hopping to get intake done by than too. But, since the factory intake box and the pipe from turbo is impossible to reach, we'll see how that go.

Yes, it wasn't a BMW thing, no manufacturer puts a BOV that vents to the atmosphere on a car from the factory because they do not pass emissions. They have to be recirculation/bypass valves.

By releasing the pressure, you keep the turbos spinning a little longer....

With that regard, there is no benefit for a BOV over a DV. BOVs, are not "faster" nor is there any real performance benefit (on this low boost car) except the sweet sound they make. I've done about 5 custom turbo projects and have tried numerous BOV and DV's. My current 1.8L engine puts down 300whp and I'm running a stock DV (diverter valve) while my peak boost is at about 25psi.

The biggest reason people switch to a BOV from a DV is the construction. DV's typically use a rubber diaphram under spring pressure, while a BOV is usually a sealed aluminum piston under spring pressure. I've ripped/melted some DV's by placing them too close to the turbo compressor side. Placing it closer to the throttle body (after the IC) has been better in my experience.

I'm going to be a 335i owner shortly due to the fact I'm a turbo person and its about time BMW got into the turbo/torque game on the gas engines

hehe here are some GOOD news!!!

I got the BOV kit (Tial BOV) made out of CNC machined piping using factory like pin that goes to throttle body (have to show you in pictures to describe it better),

AND!!!! the exhaust is ALMOST done. they made the whole piping, bending, putting resonators, all done in 2.5inch polished SS piping. used close to 27ft of piping itself.

also, going to have a few pictures by tomorrow!!! started up, BOV sounds great, you can see the valve opening up and dumps shiet lot of air out, and the exhaust..... man... crazy things!!! CP-E really did something for our cars!!! just hang tight for a day!

The purpose of a DV OR BOV is to save wear on the turbo.

When you close the throttle, all that boost pressure has to GO somewhere. If it doesn't it slams back into the turbo impeller, which wears bearings and impeller blades more quickly. This ALSO slows the impeller, or "un-spooling" the turbo.

I want to start my next statement by saying this:

I absolutely LOVE the sound of a BOV, especially a super-sequential. Just sexy.

Now, I'll tell you... I think DV is better. BOV dumps boost pressure to atmo. DV dumps pressure back into the intake side of the turbo. This may or may NOT allow for a quicker spool of the turbo, but what it DOES do is icrease the available air for the turbo to suck in. I like the idea of recycling the boost, instead of dumping it off.

If you could make a DV that made the same sounds as a BOV, I'd give you my firstborn.
