You can also save $400 and just dry the car properly and wash it in the shade. Keep in mind that the above item is not a buy and forget. You have to replace the cartridges every 100 gallons or so I think for that one and they are not cheap.

That's just a filter and it will not soften the water in SF. Like Otruba_843 said...wash it in the shade.

Another option is to wash it when the sun is not out and use products that would reduce water spots such as ONR or Ultima Paint Guard Wash. Finally....invest in some good waffleweave MF towels for drying and a good QD (CG V7, ONR, etc) as a drying aid plus some fluffy MF towels (not the Costco kind).
