Excellent. The ideal thing about Bedford is that it's flat .. so no problem seeing through the corners and if you spin off there is hardly anything to hit.

Bedford is the only proper circuit I've driven. The first time I went I must have had around 10 spins. Including a very quick one in a 911.

No damage though .. just dug up a bit of turf from the infield.

Sounds like a lot of support for a track day! I certainly have no objection to this but it will take some organising and we will need sufficient numbers to justify doing it.

Glad that there's plenty of interest for UK5.

Having just got married, I am not sure of my finances, but the car is being serviced tomorrow and it would be good to join a meet, even for a day.

Bedford do open pit days for 100 cars. The only way to do this is just to pitch up on an open track day for anyone who wants to attend.

How many cars do they allow out on the track at a given time ? Just wondering if there is much waiting about for a slot, or major congestion on the circuit?

Wink

A track-day is a great idea.

However, based on my own experience of trying to organise meets, it would be difficult to sort out, for a couple of reasons:

1 MOST individuals will NOT 'put their money where their mouth is', when 'push comes to shove'- this helps to simply create a complete & utter 'f**k up', as it were
2 Racing insurance will de difficult to obtain.
I know of only a few members who have taken out annual race track insurance for their own vehicles. Although 'hardened' track fans may well want to take out their own insurance, should they wish, I doubt most members would do so.
They would then be responsible for the costs involved in fixing any damage caused to their own vehicle, 3rd party or otherwise

A few members have already investigated the possibility of hiring the Top Gear race track (Dunsfold, Surrey). The main problem has been the £5k cost of hiring the circuit for a day, as well as the necessary race track insurance.

If Oli, Simon, Tony, Ian et al are in the mood to make the necessary arrangements to sort a track day out, then please go ahead.

I'd be hoping to make UK5 the biggest meet so far. I think that will need to take into account what everyone wants to do, most likely over a week-end.

A few ideas that have been 'kicked about', include:

'The UK5 Treasure Hunt'- all 'participants' have their nav discs/portables removed & are given a paper 'map'. Paired contestants (driver & navigator) have to make their way to a number of scattered locations, along some very nice roads, take a photo of the spot with themselves & get back to base. The winning team will receive a nice case of alcoholic beverage, courtesy of Tony, probably.
I think having Carlos, Oli & SiBurt in the same team would be unbelievable(y stupid).
If this were to happen, I'd be willing to act as cameraman, recording every innuendo, every 'baa' & every punch.

'Detailing Day'- For those interested, we could have Scottc & Co available to show members how to look after their cars' paintwork properly.

There's no reason we can't organise a few different activities at the same time, venue & weather permitting. Numbers would need to be sorted in advance, but i think it may just cater for the needs of different members.

As with all meets so far, having good company, good food & drink & a nice 'spirited' drive makes for a great day out, finishing off with 'teasing' Carlos at the bar, in the evening.

All the best.

Viv

My insurance precludes my use on a track; Nürburgring excepted (I've asked) since it is essentially a toll road.

I would welcome a track day meet at Bedford. It's a very safe circuit.

However, this shouldn't be UK5.

Now .. I'll come to UK 5 provided I don't have to wash my car on 'detailing day'

I'm up for doing a track day, but I don't think it should be the UK5 meet either. The track day will appeal to some, but will also alienate many others. Bedford is a great track and relatively safe for track novices too

Still think a 'normal' style meet would be best for UK5 - a Treasure Hunt would be a laugh - teams of driver & navigator, randomly selected, eight or so fixed locations to seek out with navigation done by old fashioned map only... winner gets a case of champagne or something similar??? As resident E90post alcohol(ic) supplier, I will naturally sponsor the prizegiving...!

I agree with the comments above - to keep UK5 as a general meet to attract as many members as possible.

I would also love to go to a track day at Bedford so we should all bear this in mind for the Summer.

I am only doing the treasure hunt if OliH navigates for Carlos.

Would love to attend UK5 but agree that it shouldn't be a track day - I have no inclination to rag my (slow) car around a circuit. Someone else's yes

Viv's ideas were good (as they usually are, infuriatingly), and Goodwood is close for me so no objections there, but don't mind 'travelling' to get to the meet.

Most of the dates work for me but even if I sign up I stand the chance of being pulled away at the last minute for work (non-negotiable). However, as was the case with the Dyno Day I would be happy to pay my way regardless, if costs were involved and I had to pull out.

Hoping to see y'all there! (wherever 'there' turns out to be)
