Beautiful car. Great wheels - but I prefer your originals.

Its official....Kwik Fit are fucking shit!

I'm off on holiday today (since you ask...the Atlantis resort in Dubai ) so have left the car at Graypaul for them to see to the vibration and a few other niggles (such as peeling trim on one of the rear panels and a new passenger door armrest - my other half's father managed to put his elbow through it when he leant on it to hard!). However, to settle my mind before I went away, they put the wheels on their balancing machine to see how bad they were. Despite two Kwik Fit's attempting to balance the wheels, the margin by which they were out is incredible - over 107g on two of the wheels! The weights weren't even stuck on in the right place across the width of the wheel! They rebalanced them and sent me off to try it and low and behold, up to the speeds I managed to get it to (which was more than the point where the steering column was shaking previously) there was no vibration! Thanks the Lord above....I'm happy and can relax now!

Interestingly and to back up what Will and others have said above, they said that Kwik Fit hadn't put any care into how they fitted the tyre to the rim as the wheels needed a LOT of balancing weights....apparently the wheels heavy/light and high/low spots (or whatever they're referred to) can be identified without the dots that I removed and they should be taken into account when fitting the tyre to a wheel. This obviously hadn't been done hence the need for so many weights so they're going to refit the tyres properly for me.

Lesson learnt - even if Shit Fit are cheapest, spend a few more quid and go elsewhere!

Glad to hear you got a good result.

I hope you are sending Kwik Fit the bill for the re-re-balancing?

Quite. After ATS smashed my rear wheels I will only ever go to a specialist from now on. Wheels in Motion isn't too far from me (as recommended by JLR) so I'll be going to them and taking advantage of touchless technology.

I'll still source my tyres through ATS (because we have an account with them) but I'll take the tyres to WIM and let the do what they do.

Glad you're sorted Andrew. Have a great holiday.

For someone who is so anal about perfection and detail how on earth could you have gone to Kwik Fit in the first place, you know they do not care about cars. Glad its sorted though.

Hope you enjoy Dubai, get a high factor sun cream as its normally to hot to sunbathe after 10am.

Finally!

It's difficult though, you take some people on face value, they seem OK and even though in the back of your mind you know they're shit you're almost willing to forget all that because you had a bit of banter. My Kwik Fit epiphany was when I caught them trying to fit the wrong speed rated tyres on to my A3. FYI 'it doesn't matter because you'll never go that fast'.

Damn right they are...I've complained to their customer service department and they've passed it onto the area manager who is apparently going to call me. Graypaul also found that they'd put a chip on the inside rim which is the main reason it's been escalated - I wonder how they'll respond to that!

I never had experience of Kwik Fit before - I knew they didn't have the best reputation but had never personally experienced how bad they could be. Now I know!

The thing is, they were over £100 cheaper than the next cheapest place for the tyres with one of their online specials and they insisted they fitted the tyres - they wouldn't let me collect them and have them fitted elsewhere so didn't have much choice.

As my grandad used to say 'quality is remembered long after the price has been forgotten'

I would never use anyone other that Wheels In Motion, they actually price matched Blackcircles on a tyre I recently bought and knocked £25 off the original price they quoted.

Packed your suncream yet!!
