I heard a rumor that the 06 production software can NOT be code into is it true or not? If it is possible will a K+DCAN cable do it? Thanks

it can be coded but you don't need to buy the $100 cable unless you want to code 07+ cars.

Yeah I just a bought a 20 dollar cable from Ebay for my 2006 325I. Worked like a charm.
Just keep in mind these cars have FRM1 so you may be limited in what you can code. But you can also upgrade to FRM3 if you wanted.

I just bought one off ebay for $20 and it worked on my 06 E90. I just successfully coded window up with Key and disable corner amber lights.

below is the link for the cable I bought and it seems to ship from NY not China lol, cause I got mine in two days as im in NY too.

I only used the driver from the disc, but I suggest you look online and get a new version of software and Daten files as I had problems and a fellow member (Alvine90) pointed out that the Daten files needed to be updated but the cable itself worked fine.
