I'm incredibly smart but, how do I unlock the doors???

I'm sure this has been asked and answered but I can't find it here.

After I park how can I make the doors unlock?
So far I can...
1. Push the button (on the panel) Frank.
2. Push the button on the fob.
3. Pull the door handle twice. It's like you have to pump up the door handle to make it work.

Is it possible to configure the locks to automagicly unlock when...
1. Putting the trans in Park?
2. Performing a shutdown of the engine?
3. Pulling the fob from the dash?
4. Using the Force? Note: I've tried but using the Force does not work. Doesn't seem to work on Wife or Son either.

Any thoughts (pertaining to this issue) would be helpful.

Thanks.

Yes, it's an option in the iDrive to unlock the doors when an automatic is put in park.

You can always ask the wife to press the button on the panel when you stop the car (it seems to only work intermittently on mine though lol)

i dont think thats an option in i-drive. the options in i-drive are lock doors when driving automatically and lock doors if unopened. you need to using coding to get the doors to unlock when you take the key fob out.

You can change the settings so the car doesn't auto-lock, but if you have the car set to auto-lock, the only way to make them auto un-lock would be through coding.

That's interesting....

On my 2011 e92 automatic unlock on fob removal is the default mode. It would drive me nuts to have to double pump my door after I have taken the FOB out. Perhaps BMW realized this and changed the default setting on the code in later model years?

I have a 2011, need to pull it twice to unlock. Don't recall seeing an option to automatically unlock when in park in iDrive but it might be there.

BTW, this is by design. When doors are locked and you manually pull the handle the first time to unlock and the second time is to actually open. It's the same for a car with a door lock nub or toggle, you need to set them open before the door will unlock. BMW combined both functions into the door handle. I like it that way.

Tag...do you have to pull it twice even after the fob is out? I have to pull it twice too unless the fob is out.

Perhaps this is more country specific and US liability issues mean that BMW is making sure its customers really really really want to open their locked doors. . . .?

Because here we have 2 2011 E92 (Granted Tag824's is godly!) with different unlocking systems. Seems to be market specific.

just stop the car from locking when you drive. i turned it off, and i haven't had to pull the handle twice or explain to passengers how my doors open since a week after i got the car.
i see no reason for it to lock when its in motion, the doors won't open in an accident, and if you're worried about strangers opening the car doors while your driving... damn

Well I'm on autopilot when I exit my car but I'm almost positive I have to pull it twice. I can comment back next time I get in/out of it. If anyone knows where this options is in iDrive please let me know, only thing I've ever seen with the doors is for it to lock when you start driving.

guys i answered this with the first post. the double pull is not a design by BMW its there for cars that come into the American market as a safety feature. there is no way to disable it through idrive. as others have said you can make it so they dont lock at all. but the only way to get them to unlock when removing the key is through codinggggg!!!

Nice.
I'll have to throw in some Tom Servo and Crow references.
How about Col. Jack O'Neil? Yah, sure ya betcha.

my car is not US spec and i also have to pull twice if fob is in. One pull opens the door if the fob is out though.

and if i do not enable automatic locking, single pull opens the door whether or not the fob is in.

The only reason I can think of why the doors would lock after moving is so when you come to stop lights nobody can just run up and open your door from the outside. It could potentially stop a carjacking.

Yes... If you're cruising through the hood...

(don't play loud rap music in the hood if you're white...)

Absolutely correct.

I work "in da hood." The underground garage is perfectly safe as we have armed guards patrolling inside and out and a 200% ID check, but once outside it can get iffy once the sun goes down.

We have a Metropolitan Police Department cruiser with at least one cop in it stationed outide the building 24/7 yet somebody has taken potshots at the building overnight.

DC is "revitalizing" the area so we'll be in better shape in a few hundred years but until then I keep my doors locked when driving.

It's also to help keep your doors from flying open upon high impact-thus helps keep you in the car.
