If it came with a plug and play harness I'd really consider doing it, but it seems that so many pins have to be pulled and relocated, I just see something going wrong at that part if I gave it a go lol..
You forgot the head unit brother.. thats the money piece and brains of this whole thingy.. To be honest the hardest part of the retro fit is taking the damn steering wheel off. I actually didn't relocate any pins doing it either. Tap into to few wires yes but the headunit uses the same connector.

Oh yeah, that might help! lol..!

I bought the Nuvi Dash mount and am using my Galaxy Note 3 on it and it does look clean, but I'd still prefer factory CIC Navigation so maybe I'll give this a go.. If i can slowly piece it together for $1500 or less that'd be fine by me! I saw someone said they did it recently on here, and only spent around $1k!

Don't forget sourcing a usable dash with nav pod; those can get a little pricey as well, and can be hard to find depending on color scheme needed and overall condition desired.

It took me 6 months of patiently waiting for a near perfect one for $500 shipped.

including dash probably 1100 is the cheapest you'll be able to get it done for, assuming you get great deals on everything

Did you get a quote from the dealer?

I bought one new for £230 including tax, which is around £360, and our tax is 20%.

They were going for nearly double on eBay used.

They are cheap as they need to be replaced if the airbag goes off.

It arrived next day.....

I found one on eBay here for $399, same color scheme as my car "Schwarz Black" and it lists as in near mint condition! It's currently in my "watched" items..

Make sure to look at all the pics. I found one that sounds extremely similar to that. Same price. Same color. Listed as very nice. The fucking air bag went off. The dash is ruined after that. They still wanted $400 for it. And had i not looked closely at the pics i wouldnt of noticed. Kinda shady to me. Im not like that. That would be the first sentence in my ebay listing description: dash ripped! Lol

But good luck. They are hard to find but you have to be patient. I got mine for $400 but it was local. Shipping is crazy for something that size and you risk damage.

If you cant find one i think the guy i got mine from has one more in black. But its here in NY. Shipping is doable but pricey.

Have you guys actually called the dealer?

As I said above, they are surprisingly cheap from BMW, cheaper than anyone on eBay was offering them for.

I remember looking and i thouht i remember seeing around $1000. Which isnt rly close to what theyre going for on ebay lol.

Theres a thread on here where someone bought a new dashboard from bmw for like $500-600 but that was in like 2007/8 and the prices went wayyy up since then on all oem parts and dont forget the huge increase in shipping costs.

Since I prefer new parts I always get the latest quotes from genuine BMW distributors first, but the cheapest price for a Nav dash was $1,014 USD plus shipping. I'm not sure how sellers on UK eBay get away with selling USED dashes for double what a new BMW dash can be had for, but here in the States used eBay parts are much cheaper than new. As I stated, I got a practically new, airbag undeployed dash for half the cost of new shipped.

I don't think it is a case of 'getting away with it' I just think many presume it is going to cost big bucks so stick it on for £500 thinking it must be cheaper than new.

Well, that sounds exactly like "getting away with it" by exploiting buyers' ignorance! Selling it for close to TWICE the price of the dealership is quite frankly, "sticking" it to customers.

I don't think the sellers realise it is so cheap at the dealership.

I certainly didn't, it was only me mentioning to my mate who works at parts that I was retrofitting the nav in an E91 that I found out they are cheap new.

Same with the M3 CSL wheels, my CSL was in for a service and I said I was sending them to Lepsons (well known high end refurb place in the UK) to have them refurbed, £150 each but as good as new if not better.
He then said 'You do realise they are only just over £220 each new anyway?'
So I bought a new set of genuine CSL wheels for £800 with discount.
Decent replicas are that money.

Just some things are a lot cheaper than we expect, we get used to being screwed over so always expect to be screwed over.

The best you could do in the states here is look up on salvage yard sites.. It's hit or miss depending on your location. Scoop one up for 325. Not bad on getting beige dash as well.

I got mine used from someone parting out a wrecked car with good airbags. I paid 400 used. Not a bad deal in my opinion.

So how much does a new dashboard go for? Im curious. How much would a new dashboard be if i went to go order it from a bmw dealer? Anyone have a part# to look up on tischer.

When I had checked at the time, it was about 920 or so and that was excluding shipping cost..

I got the part # from Realoem. I have saved somewhere.

There have been many successful retrofits of both OEM CCC (pre-LCI), CIC (LCI) systems, and now NBT (current model F-series into E-series), including the OP.

It comes down to how much you are willing to spend and how much you are willing to do yourself versus paying someone for the work and/or coding.

I personally have postponed my conversion, though I've collected everything except the NBT system itself (the most expensive aspect of my conversion) due to other projects taking priority (home remodel where I'm doing almost all the work myself).

Hey,

i have the CID from a 05 E90,
i want to use it without the rest of the system,
i saw in this post that the 12 pin connector only requires 4 pins, ( i'd only need 2 for the power )
can someone tell me what other wires i need to hook the lcd up to something else.
i have another 10 pins connector on the CID en i thought that would most probably be used for the data signal.
any inputs would be greatly appreciated!
thnx

As I recall, and its been a long while since I've worked on any of this...

The four pins needed on the CID are- 2 for power, 2 for CAN bus. The CID will not even turn on unless it is hooked up to the CAN bus, even if hooked-up to power.

The video signal is carried on the LVDS cable (the other connector).

Hey guys, one thing why can't someone use a 3d printer to insert the screen in the same place where you have the logic 7 speaker on the dash?
I think it will be cheaper, I don't know if it's possible but ...
