Alpina flash n55 tach problem

I noticed an interesting part of the tach problem today in traffic. Tach does not show problems @ or below 15 mph in any gear.

Could it have something to do with the "unstable" ROM's identified by COBB for the N55?

Did the two cars with the same build-date have different DME ROM's?

I went to cn555ic yesterday and I want to thank Steven for uploading this software. Its totally awesome. On D, the shifts are smooth, seamless and quick to the highest gear. You won't hear the back seat drivers bitching about any hard upshifts anymore. On S, this tranny is quick to respond to downshifts and the acceleration now is awesome, it bought new life to this car, I have a completely different beast. I went after a hotshot in a G37x and reeled him in like if its nothing. On M mode, now I enjoy the paddle shifting, near instantaneous shifts like a F1 car. I really enjoy the car now with this upgrade. Once again, thanks Steven for this upgrade.

No more Alpina Wacky Tachy for my N55

I was one of the few that had tach problems with the Alpina flash on my 2011 N55 335 so I wanted to share my experience.

My radio display was having pixel problem in the heat. Still under warranty I dropped the car off at the dealer for a radio replacement.
When I recieved the car back from the dealer the following modules had been updated,

DME/DDE 7619981 -> 8618483

JBBF 9247477 -> 9305740
DSC 6789304 -> 6862873
CAS 9227053 -> 9287534
KOMBI 9221631 -> 9242396
MOSTGW 9245878 -> 9302172
MASK/CCC 9242510 -> 9302177
FAS 9221861 -> 9264974
BFS 9221861 -> 9264974
FRM 9240529 -> 9308367
KLIMA 9242407 -> 9292259

I reflashed the car with the Alpina software and was delighted to find the tach problems no longer exsist.

The tach problem is only on N55s with older DME software. Updating the DME will fix the issue, I told cn555ic months ago I am not sure if he posted it or not

I want to thank Scn555ic for another successful flash. I have a X1 35 and I love the shifting now! So quick.

Guess this answers my question as to whether the dealer will notice/care about the flash. Just out of curiosity, did you update your UIF when you did the flash? Does your WinKFP show the flash history (with dates and dealer number) when you read the AIF with it?

Any guide on how to do this with Winkfp? Im guessing its almost identical to the method for the TCU flash but are there any precautions I should take?

Any data I should backup (coding, VO, etc... I am new to BMWs so I dont want to screw myself)

I know this is an old thread but I am on a quest

Firmer shifts = less clutch slip = longer trans life especially with higher power

Has anyone updated their DME on their own via WinKFP to fix the weird tach issue?

I experienced it when I flashed the "2011" TCU software on to my 2011 335i.

I assume I will also get it if I flash the Alpina software to my car.

Hey guys, just wanted to let people in the LA/SoCal area know.....I got my trans flashed by Alex@Alpine. He was very professional, very quick and on time for our appointment! I was in and out within 10-15 min! He can even code other cool things on your car as well. Like folding/unfolding mirrors with your key, and lots of other goodies! I was also concerned about the tach dropping issue, and he told me if that happens then he can fix it on the spot "which I didn't know was possible"!
Ohh and like everyone else has said, I wish I did this sooner! Sickest bang for your buck mod I've done in a while!

It's meant for the ZF 6HP19 6-speed steptronic transmission. Your DCT is not this transmission, but I think only the 335is has the DCT? Check to make sure
TL;DR. Nope

Thanks for this information. We recently loaded the Alpina B3 flash to my son's 335i (2008 E90) and it works beautifully. I wanted to do the same to my 335i xDrive (2011 E90 N55) but the wacky tachy problem made weary of this flash for my car. When I came across this tread, I checked the modules I have and looks like my car did not get much update since 2010.

DME/DDE INPA does not show.

I can't seem to find out the DME version, but judging from the rest of the modules, looks like I don't have the updated software and if I flash the TCU, I will most likely have the tachometer issue. I have a few questions:
1) How can I find out about the version of my DME?
2) If indeed I need an update, can someone point out a DIY for updating the DME for an LCI (N55)?
3) I have the Beemer Geeks' USB Cable. Is it good enough for updating the DME?

Thanks

Just in case you are not already aware XHP has pretty much made this option obsolete. I do understand that the Alpina is a free option so I can understand some people still wanting to go this route.

I wasn't aware of the xHP. Thanks for the information. I like to try Alpina B3 though as I already spent some money on JB4, Carly and COBB charge pipe.
