You can get what you want if you request the item to be marked as a gift.

However you can still get stung if customs decide to have a look at your item. As they perform random searches. I know Royal Mail will charge you a levy on top of customs taxes due. I'm sure other couriers do the same.

But if you can get away with it go for it!

beware of customs charges, even if your not receiving by normal post - they apply to courier sent parcels......

I used to buy contact lenses from the US (1/2 price there compared to UK) but then I started to get stung for import duty - had to write a cheque at the sorting office before I could collect them.

I have also recently purchased the SmartTOP module for the 'vert (not fitted as yet) and they used DHL - a £205 module attracted £46 worth of fees before they would hand it over.

I asked why they would not send it as a gift and they claimed it was illegal and lots of US firms are getting fines - since 9/11 it appears that a very high proportion of parcels are inspected either by xray or even opened. The firms can get fined if the goods value differs from the docket declared value.

hope this helps

Paul
