Repeated Services in my 2010 335d

Last week I brought in my 2010 335d for service. This the tenth time I have done so based on a "Service Engine Soon" light since I purchased the car as a CPO in Feb 2013. Mostly the fixes have been burned out sensors of some kind.

Recently, BMWNA agreed to a re-purchase. However, I enjoy the car to no end when I am actually driving it. The power and MPG are unbeatable and I want another one. However, the wife brought up the valid point about buying the same problem all over again.

Is this an issue with the model as a whole or did I just get a bad one?

Yes and no. The SES is quite common mainly due to the emissions system on the car. Sounds like you got the worst of the lot. I'd listen to your wife in this case.

If you don't want to deal with those emission issues again, I suggest you look elsewhere. We all have to live with it but looks like you found a way out without any headaches. You might want to look into an A6/7 TDI (I prefer the A7) if you're really addicted to low end torque and good mpg but they're a bit pricier.

Do some math. How much money do you have in the car, how long till you are payment free, how much would a replacement cost, how long do you expect to keep it and how much might worst case scenario repairs run you and how much inconvenience are you willing to tolerate with this vehicle. I have not had any problems with my vehicle yet, but as I read about the issues that it could encounter these are the parameters I digest when I think of getting something different. With every payment that I am closer to owning and the longer I go without problems and as I continue to enjoy driving this great machine and fail when I try to find something else that peaks my interest …..the longer I will hold on to it. Good luck.
