yes the stocks were tucked up tighter. but like i said, it is equal distance all around f/ the round tip to the round cut out. both the half lines match up.

So, do you think there is any chance of getting this exhaust tucked in more? I'd like it to go up to fill the cutouts better...

It just seems a lil weird with it drooping so low.

i'll give it a try this weekend, just to see if it can be done. there are 2 hangers and mounts right above the tips, but they attach from the bottom and go around the tip and attach directly above it. sort of like this shape " o] " i did grab the tips, just top see if there is any play in the system. it is solid as a rock, so it will be interesting to see if i loosen the 1st set of clamps back f/ the tips, push up the tips and retighten the clamps. to see if that will raise them up.

i hope to have my head under the hood anyway, my Ris Racing OCC, should be here any day now. shipped on Mon. 03/30/09

news and film at 11, on this same " BAT CHANNEL."

Tips moved up and in.

well, i took advantage of a rainy morning and took up the task of moving the tips on my BMW Performance Exhaust.

D_o_S & MuchMore, on this forum, brought this to my attention.
thanks guys.

earlier pix of my car showed that the tips were lower and stuck out about 3/4 " all the way around f/ where the stock exhaust had been mounted.
so upon looking under the car i chose to move the exhaust hangers up and back a little.
there are no overt adjustments on the hangers so i had to move/bend/pry in that direction. so i used my hydrolic floor jack (just 3 ton) and jacked upped
the hangers up and back slightly. first i loosened the back 2 clamps where the pipes come together, on each side. then used a small piece of pipe 1/2" round 14" long.
placed on end on the jacks cup, and the other on the tip of the hanger as it stuck out of the rubber mounts. so i jacked it up gently about an inch or two.
after the jack was lowered the tip stayed up higher around the cut outs of the rear defuser. this also moved them back too. that was easy, i jacked it up twice on the left side (1st attempted side).
then once on the right side as i developed how much (how high) to jack the hanger bracket. so by the time i was finished, the rain had stopped, and the sun was coming out.
so i pulled out of the garage, and snapped a few pix to show you.

after it was all said and done, i looked at my handywork, and came to the conclusion that this was a Definite Improvement to my BMW.

so KUDOS to D_O_S, and MuchMore.

thanks gentleman.

Wow man, that looks soooooooooooooooooooo much better! Congratz on doing it...

So basically from what you're saying is you have to bend the hangers in order to get it to fit like that?

it would have been so much easier to do when i 1st put the system together. i believe there is plenty of movable play as the install goes along and tighten it all up as you hold the tips in place. would have just been done if i realized the tips were lower in the 1st place.

thanks again, off to work.

should have made adjustments 1st.

so when i 1st installed this exhaust i should have waited before tightening all the clamps until all the peices were in place. as it was i tightened them as i went along, and at the end the tips were only 3/4 of an inch off. but all that could have been avoided if i held the tips where i wanted them while someone tighten up the clamps. so today i didn't have the use of a rack so i loosened the last 2 clamps closest to tips. moved the hanger mounts as needed to make the tips up closer in the cut outs for them. then tighten the last 2 clamps. so make the install a 2 man job, at least at the end.

it really does look better w/ the tips up closer to the bumper. oh well, live and learn.

Looks great and I am thinking about this exhaust on my 335xi. However, do you think we could just get the tips or no?

If you just want tips, I would look up "Cyba".

just adding tips will not change the note of the exhaust. though these tips are not rolled on the end the circumference only goes up by a half an inch f/ stock to BMW Perf. exhaust.

so now i just listen to it before i pull out of my garage. it is almost neat to hear it just fade away as she warms up.

anyone else that upgraded their exhaust, w/ something other than BMW's performance exhaust system have the similar cold start noise?

it really does sound like a rattle trap at first, but no worries mate.

how about you Mick, and the others w/ the European upgraded exhaust that still has the valve that closes one pipe at first. noise there for you also?
i have UR catless downpipes with stock exhuast. i always have loud and rattling (sound) cold starts.

the rattleing lasts only for the first 5 seconds though... glad some of you oher guys have this too.

midlife, rattle..... YES. the waste gates are wide open at first, as the engine warms up. you can hear them tapping if you put your ear near the engine.

I finally gave in and bought the BMW performance exhaust and had my dealer install it. BMW Canada dropped the price from approx. prices of Cdn $2,100 list to $1,700. My BMW club discount brought it down to $1,600 Cdn or $1,300 USD. I found out there were 6 people at my dealer that got it installed previous to me. The Canadian version is without the flap, like the American one.

I like the tone and the look. I park in an underground garage and to me it's not that much louder on cold start-up but it is loud when you get on the pedal.

congrats mike,

so no open waste gate rattle on a cold start up. since you are in Van Cov BC i'm sure it is cold on a morning start up. for me it only happens on the first start of the day.
oh well, lucky you.
the price diff. is because you have a coupe. E90s systems run $1795 f/ Tisher.

got any pix of that new system? looking forward to seeing them.

Thanks Spydeputy!

I tried starting up and driving off once accelerating harder than normal and did hear the cold rattle and it was ugly. But normal cold startup (in a warm garage) and idle doesn't sound that bad for me.

My tips aren't as nicely tucked as yours after the adjustment but i think they seam ok.

if no tip provided on the new exhaust to stick the hose to, then any "golf tee mod" will work. any dead end plug will work, it just can't leak.

you can also disconnect this vacuum in access thru the trunk. i have not looked into this, but a search should find a DIY to this mod. i've seen it w/in the past few months.

good luck, and enjoy the NEW sound of BMW Power. remember to take pix please!
